01 Scope of the Research

The present investigation has yielded evidence of an association


between self-esteem and reading comprehension among eleventh-
grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Baubau. The concept of self-esteem
is two distinct categories, namely high self-esteem and low self-
esteem. Reading comprehension focuses on main idea, finding topics,
finding reference, finding inferences, finding details in the text, and
understanding vocabulary.
01 Objective of the Research

1. To find out the self-esteem of class eleventh students at SMA Negeri


2 Baubau.
2. To find out the reading comprehension of class eleventh students of
SMA Negeri 2 Baubau.
3. To find out the correlation between students' self-esteem and reading
comprehension in class eleventh at SMA Negeri 2 Baubau.
01 Significance of the Research

For the educator


The educator can employ a reading learning technique that is appropriate for pupils of
all personalities, including those with high self-esteem and those with low self-esteem.

For the students


The students shall perceive and comprehend whether their self-esteem is high or low.
It has been observed that students with a higher level of self-esteem are inclined to
harbor a strong belief in their own proficiency in the English language, leading to an
enhanced aptitude for learning, specifically in the domains of reading comprehension.

For the researcher


This research is also intended to aid academics who want to do research on this ore as a
reference.

The first is Maya Anjela et al (2020) research on students at SMA Negeri 5


Palembang. The purpose of this study is to discover the relationship between
self esteem and reading comprehension. The study discovered a link between
students’ self-esteem and reading comprehension.

The second is Reni Sarah (2022) research on students SMK Negeri 2 Kotabumi North
Lampung. The purpose of this study is to discover the relationship between self-esteem
and reading comprehension. The study discovered a link between students’ self-esteem and
reading comprehension.

RESEARCH METHOD
03 Type of the Research

The quantitative approach and correlation design


with the ex-post-facto method will use in this research.

X: Self-esteem (Independent Variable)

Y: Reading comprehension (Dependent Variable)


03 Time and Place of the Research

This research will be conducted in the second semester of the


school year 2023/2024 at SMA Negeri 2 Baubau, which is located
at Jalan Betoambari no. 67 in Murhum District, Baubau City,
Southeast Sulawesi Province.
03 Population and Sample of the Research

1. Population
The populations of this study are students in class XI SMA Negeri 2
Baubau for the 2023/2024 school year with a total population of 438
pupils in addition to the data acquired.

2. Sample
The research sample consists of 60 individuals. Cluster random sampling
will be used in this study.

Self-esteem will use questionnaire Reading comprehension will use the test

The following are data collection technique used by researchers in obtaining study
data:
1) The researcher gathers pupils from one class.
2) The instrument was administered to the students in the form of a
questionnaire by the researcher
3) Before handing out the questionnaire, the researcher explains what it is
and how to fill it out.
4) Researcher observes students as they complete the questionnaire.
03 Instrument and Technique of Data Collection

Reading Comprehension test

The following are data collection technique used by researchers in obtaining


study data:
1) The researcher gathers pupils from one class.
2) The instrument was administered to the students in the form of a reading
test by the researcher
3) The researcher offered the participants 40 minutes to complete the test
4) The researcher will keep the class condition calm until the students have
finished answering the test.
03 Technique of Data Analysis

In this research, descriptive statistic, prerequisite analysis and inferential


statistics are use data analysis methods. There data score is determine using
the SPSS program 21
