• Simple past
a definite action in the past. It answers the question
“WHEN”  We had our mid-term test last Tuesday.
• Present perfect
a) past actions with a present result  I’ve already
corrected the tests.
b) actions that started in the past and continue until now 
We’ve been having online classes since last year due to the
pandemic.
c) personal experiences  Have your ever been to Rio?
I have been to Brazil many times, but I’ve never been to
Rio.
