Quality Management System

The Quality Management System (QMS) is that part


of the organization’s management system that
focuses on the achievement of results, in relation
to the quality objectives, to satisfy the needs,
expectations and requirements of interested
parties, as appropriate.

ISO 9000 is a family of standards for


quality management systems.

ISO 9000 is maintained by ISO, the


International Organization for Standardization
and is administered by accreditation and
certification bodies.

ISO 9000 includes standards:

ISO 9000:2000, Quality management systems – Fundamentals


and vocabulary. (Revised ISO 9000:2005)

that part of an organization’s management system
used to develop and implement its environmental
policy and manage its environmental aspects.

Functionally, the standards are broadly organized as follows:

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)


Management System is that part of the
organization’s management system that sets and
enforces mandatory OSH standards to eliminate
or reduce OSH hazards in all workplaces and
institute new and update existing programs to
ensure safe and healthful working conditions in
all place of employment.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
OHSAS 18001

This is an international occupational health and


safety management system specification,
embracing BS8800, AS/NZ 4801, NSAI SR 320
and a number of other publications.

OHSAS is not an ISO standard. It is issued by the


British Standard Institute.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
• Sets out requirements for OH&S management
system
• Similar to ISO 9001 and 14001
• Not industry specific
• Describes good management practice but does not
state how procedures and controls are to be
operated
• Does not state specific OH&S performance criteria
• Applicable to small or large organizations
• Applicable to any industry, organization or activities
