MAIN TOPICS OF MUSCLES

• Definition
• Structure of Muscle
• Types of Muscle
• Classification of Muscle
• Naming of Muscle
DEFINITION OF MUSCLE

• A Band or Bundle of Fibrous Tissue in a Human or Animal Body that has

ability To contract
• Production of Movement
• Mantaining the Position of Parts of the body
STRUCTURE OF MUSCLE

• Origin: Attachment of Muscle with Bone which is least Mobile

• Insertion: Attachment of Muscle with Bone which is highly Mobile
• Belly: Present Within origin and insertion
• Contractile unit of Muscle
• 60% Motor , 40%Sensory
• Tendon: Connect Bone to Muscle
• Ligament: Connect Bone To Bone
• Raphe: Look Like Union of Two Half of Organ.E.g; Tongue
TYPES OF MUSCLE

• There are Three Types of Muscles

1. Smooth Muscle
2. Cardiac Muscle
3. Skeletal Muscle
SMOOTH MUSCLE

• Involuntary in Action
• Consists of long spindle shaped Cells
• Closely arranged in Bundles
• Movement is Peristalsis
• Present throughout the body including digestive system
SKELETAL MUSCLE

• Voluntary in Action
• Striated Muscles
• Having Cells called Muscle Fibres
• Long cells
• Having multiple Nucleus
CARDIAC MUSCLE

• Muscles present at heart

• Having single nucleus
• Involuntary in Action
• Striated Muscle
CLASSIFICATION OF MUSCLE

• Muscles re classified in three types

• Unipennate Muscle
• Bipennate Muscle
• Multipennate Muscle
• Unipennate: Muscle fibres are oriented at one Fibre angle To force-generating
Axis
• They all are at same side of tendon
• Bipennate: Muscle fibres are oriented at two Fibre angle to Force-generating Axis
• They all are between two sides of tendon
• Multipennate: Muscle fibres are oriented at multiple Fibre angle
• They are attached with central Tendon Branching tnto two or more
tendon
NAMING OF MUSCLE

• Muscles are named According To

1. Size
2. Shape
3. Respect to Head
4. Respect To position
5. Recpect To Action
6. Recpect To Depth
ACCORDING TO SIZE

• Long___ Longissimus
• Broad ___Latismus
• Bigger___ Major
• Minor___Small
ACCORDING TO SHAPE

• Deltoid___∆
• Teres____0
• Rectus____ Rectangular shape
WITH RESPECT TO HEAD

• Biceps___Two Heads
• Triceps___Three Heads
• Quadriceps___Four Heads
WITH RESPECT TO ACTION

• Flexor___ Flexion
• Extensor___Extension
WITH RESPECT TO DEPTH

• Deep Profundus
• Super Facial
