SAFEGUARDS…

• They are rules and policies set by the investor or a recipient


country.
• They seek to avoid, minimize, or mitigate adverse
environmental and social impacts.
• They exist to protect the rights of those likely to be affected by
unintended or unavoidable adverse effects of development
projects.
