Presentation of one of the daily activities as process enginner in Injection Molding department

Project Summary:
In this project, i will present the testing of a new mould, which is one of the daily activities of my job. This includes the injection process, building
the gripper for the robot and programming it to give a flow to the whole process.

After mounting the mould on the machine a


series of verifications will be made, these are: -
The water hoses are properly fitted;
-The air nozzle is correctly inserted on the
mould and on the machine;
-The temperature controllers are functional; -
The drawing of the part and the mould must be
on the machine;
-The robot must be in a secure position;-

The first step is to build the gripper. In


this case , i used :
- 2 bars of 500 mm
- - 2 bars of 150 mm
- - 2 bars of 80 mm
- - clamping couplings
- - suction cups
- -extensions for hose connection
- -Hose

In order to proceed to the next step, starting the mould, we need to perform a number of tasks for the process to
run smoothly:
-Turning on the water circuits mounted on the mould and also turning on the water distribution system;
-Turning on the thermoregulators;
- Turning on the cylinder heating (on the injection unit);
- - Turning on the hot runner;
- The material to be prepared;
- Clean the cylinder with cleaning material;

Machine and mould calibrations are an important step in the start-up process. The following tasks must be done:
- Adjust the 0-point of the extractor and set its stroke (marked in the plate on the mould);
- Determinate the height of the mold (automatically with the machine function);
- Set the 0-point of the injection unit;

Before making the first injections, it is necessary to set properly the opening and closing speeds, forces and strokes to
prevent damage of the mould. In the pictures below you can see the diagrams of the opening/closing process of the mold.

Therefore , after making a few mould


openings/closures, the initial injection
parameters will be introduced in the
injection menu. These parameters are
initially calculated with equations and
then adjusted according to the resulting
part.

After the proper filling of the part, the picking and palletizing of the parts with the robot will be
programmed; In the pictures below you can see the robot remote control interface where the picking and
palletizing points will be set.

Finally, after obtaining the best version of the part,


a sheet of injection parameters will be completed
and a test report will be made specifying non-
conformities, if it’s necessary.
