Lesson II
L.O. - To be able to know and understand how and when to use the
things that you can do on a computer mouse.
S.C. – I can:
- Know what all of the useful things to do on a mouse are.
- Know how and when to use them.
- Use them regularly.
The Computer Mouse
This connects a lot to the last lesson that we did about the computer keyboard. You
will probably need both a keyboard and a mouse to use a computer properly.
Wireless & Wired Mice
- Computer mice can usually be separated into 2 different groups: wired and
wireless.
- Here, ‘wired’ means that it is connected to the computer with a cable.
- Here, ‘wireless’ means that it is connected to the computer without a cable.
- Wired mice are usually older, and wireless ones are usually newer.
Starter
- Do you think you know or have heard of a right-click on a mouse or scrolling?
- Try and tell me what you think it means and what it does.
Keyboard Clicks
- There are 2 different clicks that you
can do on a computer.
- They can do different things, like
activating something. Left-click Right-click
- Each of them is called a left-click and a
right-click.
The Left-Click
- We use the left-click to activate things.
- For example, when you left-click on PowerPoint, you will save your document.
• This is the main thing that you are supposed to do.
- You will usually be using the left-click more than the right-click.

Top Tip!
Left-clicking is different to right-
clicking, so make sure you don’t
use the wrong one!
The Right-Click
- When you click on the right side of the mouse, you will find a menu.
- Below has all of the things most of these menus can do.
- Lots of apps, like Word, have more things that you can do on the keyboard.

Remember!
You can always go out of this
menu by left-clicking anywhere
else on the screen.
The Right-Click – Useful Things
- There are a lot of useful things that you can do with the right-click:
- For example, you can see all of the keyboard commands on the right on some
apps.
- You can also:
• Cut
• Copy
• Paste
• Delete
• Select all of the text
Task
- Your task is to sort all of the words below if they are used for a left-click, a right-
click, or none of them.
- You need to write them down in a table on your book. I have drawn the table for
you.
