According to regulation NOM-004- STPS-1999, NOM- 001.STPS-


2008, D.O.F. 24-XI-2008, update and NOM-002-STPS-2000
Introduction:
The aforementioned regulations (NOM-004-STPS-1999, NOM-001.
STPS-2008, D.O.F. 24-XI-2008, update and NOM-002-STPS-2000)
refers to specific regulations on occupational safety and health in
Mexico.

• Below are the main elements of the safety assessment and review
contemplated in these regulations..
NOM-004-STPS-1999:
1. Identification of risks:

• Occupational hazards present in the work environment must be

identified.

2. Risk assessment:

• An assessment of the identified risks should be carried out to determine

their level of hazardousness.


3. Risk control:

• Measures and controls should be put in place to mitigate or eliminate the

identified risks.
4. Training and training:

• Workers should be trained and trained on the risks present and control

measures.
5. Accident logging:

• Records of workplace accidents should be kept and analyzed.


NOM-001-STPS-2008:
1. Risk assessment:

• Occupational hazards present in the workplace must be identified and

assessed.
2. Preventive and protective measures:

• Preventive and protective measures should be put in place to control the

identified risks.
3. Occupational safety and health programme:

• A comprehensive occupational safety and health programme should be

developed that includes prevention, training and health promotion actions.


4. Accident investigation:

• Investigations of occupational accidents should be carried out to determine the

causes and propose preventive measures.


5. Periodic inspections:

• Periodic inspections should be carried out to verify compliance with

occupational safety and health measures.


D.O.F. 24-XI-2008:
This reference refers to the Official Gazette of the Federation (D.O.F.) and its
publication of November 24, 2008.

It does not provide specific information on security assessment and review

items.
NOM-002-STPS-2000:
1. Initial assessment:

• An initial assessment of occupational hazards in the workplace should be

carried out.
2. Hazard and damage identification:

• Hazards and potential harms associated with occupational hazards must be

identified.
3. Preventive and corrective measures:

• Preventive and corrective measures should be put in place to control the

identified risks.
4. Training and  Professional Training:

• Workers should be trained and trained in occupational safety and health.


5. Incident investigation:

• Workplace incidents should be investigated to determine the causes and

propose preventive measures.
