 What Is The English Self Learning Program?
The Pacific Links English Self Learning Program:
• Is a learning program put together by staff members and volunteers of Pacific Links
• Is designed to be a complementary option to formal English learning in schools by
Vietnamese English learners.
• Assumes that the learners who use this program:
 Have access to computer and the Internet
 Already learn English for at least one year
• Is designed to help the learners to quickly learn vocabulary and proper
pronunciation, improve listening and comprehensions, and ultimately be confident
conversing in English.
 Why Is Learning English Important?
Learning English is important because:
• Knowing English is a pre-requisite to higher education,
particularly if you want to pursue higher study in
technology, business, or science.
• English is the business language of the world. Even in
Asia, anywhere you go the common language that people
from different nations use to communicate with each
other is English.
• 70% of information stored electronically is in English
• Knowing English will open many doors and opportunities,
which otherwise would not be available to you.
 What You Will Learn In This Program?
The English Self Learning Program doesn’t necessarily teach you English. Rather, it is
designed to show you how to use the various free online resources to teach yourself.
Specifically, you will learn:
• Effective methods to learn a new language by various educators and learners around the
world.
• How to use Google and Google Translate to learn vocabulary.
• How to use YouTube and English Learning channels.
• How to learn English through songs
• How to use online English dictionary
• How to use online visual dictionary
• How to find and use podcasts
• Key vocabulary
• How to improve listening comprehension and ability to converse in English
