SACRAMENTS
“efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the
Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us” (CCC 1131)
- 7 Sacraments
- Sacraments consist of 3 elements
1. Outward sign: 2 parts
2. Instituted by Christ
3. To give grace
SACRAMENTS
1. Baptism
2. Confirmation
BAPTISM
- Basis of the whole Christian life
- Cleansed and reborn as children of God
- John 3:5-7
- Matt 3:16-17
- The Holy Trinity becomes present at the baptism of every soul
- How often do we ponder on the intimacy of the Lord within us, at
every moment of every day?
- If we truly believed this, we should experience freedom from extreme
thoughts
BAPTISM
- Baptism is not only for our own salvation, but also for others
- “Illuminated with the grace of christ, we may also be light for others”
(Pope Francis)
- While Baptism gifts us with the Holy Spirit to initiate us as members of
the Church, Confirmation is necessary to complete initial initiation of
baptismal grace
CONFIRMATION
“The baptized are more perfectly bond to the Church by the sacrament of
Confirmation, and the Holy Spirit endows them with special strength so
that they are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith, both by
word and by deed, as true witnesses of Christ.” (Lumen Gentium, 11)
- Through Confirmation, we are called to submit ourselves more fully to
the Holy Spirit so that through Him, we may actively participate in the
life of the church
CONFIRMATION
- Ascension to Pentecost
- Acts 2:1-4
- Power of the Holy Spirit

- Confirmation is a new Pentecost

- Submitting ourselves to the authority of the Holy Spirit
- This means we belong totally to Jesus Christ but that we also bear
the responsibility of making disciples of all nations
- The Holy Spirit and the efficacy of the sacraments are inseparable
REFLECTION

1. How often are you conscious of the truth that the Lord dwells within
you?
2. Take some time to contemplate on the image of the heavens opening
and the voice of God speaking upon you which says, ‘You are My
beloved; in you I am well pleased.” How does this make you feel?
3. Do you live under the authority of the Holy Spirit? What does that look
like in your life?/How do you desire to submit to Him more?
CALL TO ACTION

Read Isaiah 11:2-3.

Reflect on which gift of the Spirit that you desire to practice in your life
and then pray with each other in your CG for the grace to do so.
ISAIAH 11:2-3
2
The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—

3
and he will delight in the fear of the LORD.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
or decide by what he hears with his ears;
