Identifying Quadrants in Cartesian Plane

The document discusses the Cartesian coordinate system. It was discovered by René Descartes, known as the "Father of Modern Mathematics". The Cartesian plane is composed of two perpendicular number lines that intersect at the origin (0,0) point. This divides the plane into 4 quadrants. Each point on the plane is represented by an ordered pair (x,y). The x-coordinate is called the abscissa and the y-coordinate is called the ordinate. The signs of the coordinates vary in the four quadrants, which are labeled as quadrant 1=(+,+), quadrant 2=(-,+), quadrant 3=(-,-), and quadrant 4=(+,-). Points can be plotted on the plane using their ordered pairs. As an

 What do you know about Cartesian Plane?

 In a Cartesian plane, how many quadrants it composed?

 What do you call the vertical line in the Cartesian plane?

 What do you call also the point that the x ad y axes

intersected?
 CARTESIAN COORDINATE PLANE is composed with
two perpendicular number line that meet at the point of
origin (0,0) and divided the plane into 4 regions called
quadrants.

 Each point in the coordinate plane is composed of ordered

pairs (x,y).
 Example : (3,4) (-5,7)
 The First coordinate of a point is called the x-coordinate
or Abscissa and the second coordinate kis the y-coordinate
or the Ordinate.

 The signs of the first and second coordinate f a point vary

in the four quadrant.
