There are two kinds of Fertilization:
External Fertilization

Internal Fertilization

External Fertilization

 A watery moist environment is needed so the


gametes will not dry out.
o The process is
initiated by the
release of a
chemical by a mate,
and this stimulates
other mates to
release their
gametes.
o Examples are
amphibians, frogs,
toads, and fishes.
Internal Fertilization
 The egg is fertilized within the female
reproductive tract in a process called
copulation (Mating).
o Mammals, including
humans, exhibit
internal fertilization
and internal
development.
o Some species of
frogs exhibit external
fertilization and
external
development
