Renewable energy
Energy that is generated from natural
process that are continuously
replenished.

Photovoltaic cell
 Photovoltaic cell energy: direct conversion of
sunlight into electricity
 Classification:
1. Commercial : used in mass production
2. Emerging : small production volumes
3. Novel: early laboratory stage
Geothermal energy
 the energy generated in the earth and
stored in the earth

Types of geothermal plants
Dry Steam Plants: . Flash Steam Plants:
They use steam directly from They take high-pressure hot
a geothermal reservoir to turn water from deep inside the
generator turbines. The first earth and convert it to steam
geothermal power plant was to drive generator turbines.
built in Tuscany, Italy, where When the steam cools, it
natural steam erupted from condenses to water and is
the earth. injected back into the ground
to be used again.

Binary Cycle Power Plants:

They transfer the heat from geothermal hot water to
another liquid. The heat causes the second liquid to turn to
steam, which is used to drive a generator turbine.
Micro hydel energy
Micro hydro is a type of hydroelectric
power that typically produces from 5 kW
to 100 kW of electricity using the natural
flow of water.
Installations below 5 Kw are pico hydro
Types of microhydel energy
Pelton Turbine: •Stream Engine
•Can produce energy over Water Baby Turbine:

to 10 ft.)
Biogas
Biogas is a gas produced via anaerobic digestion
of animal, plant, human, industrial and
municipal wastes amongst others, to give mainly
methane (50-70%), carbon dioxide (20-40%)
and traces of other gases such as nitrogen,
hydrogen, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, water
vapour etc.
Production: hydrolysis , acidogenesis, and
methanogenesis

ANAEROBIC DIGESTION:
microorganisms decompose the organic
matter into biogas without the presence of
oxygen.
Wind Energy
The term ‘wind power’ and ‘wind energy’
describes the process by which the wind is
used to generate mechanical power or
electricity.
Energy mix
The energy mix is a group of different
primary energy sources from which
secondary energy for direct use - usually
electricity - is produced

Geothermal energy: 65%
Micro hydel energy : 31.5
Wind energy : 0.5 %
