06 Hirekolale lake
The beautiful town of Chikmagalur meaning ‘younger daughter’s town in the native language of
Karnataka which is Kannada. A place filled with beautiful scenic places and breathtaking locations, the
area is spread across 30 km2. Located at a distance of 250 kms from Bengaluru, it is a perfect getaway
from the hustle bustle of city life.

• Amidst all the lush greenery and mountain ranges, a calm and serene lake called Hirekolale lake is
present at the foothills of Mullayanagiri hills. The huge mountains of the western ghats surrounding the
lake, further beautify the lake making it a favorite among nature lovers.

• This beautiful man-made lake is situated at a distance of 10 km from Chikmagalur and about 50 km
from Kemmangundi. It was built as a source of drinking water to the town of Chikmagalur and to supply
water for irrigation purposes in the villages nearby.

• These scenic views are a treat to ardent photography lovers, especially the sunset shots and the greenery
surrounding the lake in the form of Mullayanagiri Hills.
