 Public policies are essential for promoting social welfare, economic growth and
political stability, among other goals

 However, the politics of implementation and evaluation can pose significant


challenges for policymakers

 The process of policy implementation can be hindered by several factors


including bureaucratic bottlenecks, lack of resources and resistance from
stakeholders.

 Policy evaluation can also be hindered by dearth of data and political pressures
to demonstrate the success of policies.

TYPES OF PUBLIC POLICY

Distributive Policy – to subsidise or give aids to society. Example; Poverty


policy, providing funding for public schools, subsidies for farmers and grants for
small businesses.

Regulatory Policy - to monitor and control activities. Example; environmental


regulations, workplace safety standards and consumer protection laws

Redistributive Policy – to restructure economy and wealth among society.


Example; progressive taxation, social security programs, and welfare benefits

Constitutive Policy - defines the structure and functions of government and


establish the rights and responsibilities of citizens. Examples; constitution,
electoral laws and the legal system
