The Hindering Crowd &

A Sycamore Tree
Luke 19:1-
8
Luke 19:1-2

1.He entered and was passing through

Jericho.
2.There was a man named Zacchaeus. He
was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.
Zacchaeus
Zacchaeus
Pure, Righteous One.
Zacchaeus
People despise Him
Tax Collector!
Tax Collector!
Hypocrite, Prostitute, and Sinners
• they Collected taxes for foreign power
(Roman Empire).
Why did they • They use Their Position for personal gain,
hate tax collector and sacrifice Fellow Jews for riches.
• Their profession requires constant contact
so much? with unbelievers, and made them unclean.
Though this man has the power or wealth and
official status, he is clearly a social outsider. in the
eyes of the jewish compatriots, his “littleness” is
more than phisycal. he is a nobody.
He was Rich...
They use their positions for personal gain, and sacrifice fellow jews for
riches.
Luke 19:3

3. He was trying to see who Jesus was, and

couldn't because of the crowd, because he
was short.
Zaccheus could not see jesus not merely
because of phisycal stature but because of the
crowd as well.
Are you the hindering crowd?
Think about
this
Luke 19:4

4. He ran on ahead, and climbed up into a

sycamore tree to see him, for he was to
pass that way.
Remember this:

He was willing to be thought odd rather

than miss the oppurtunity of a fleeting
glimpse of the Man he so much wanted to
see.
Though he is a person of some importance,
his position does not prevent him from
climbing sycamore tree.
Are we willing to set aside everything just to
see Jesus in our life?
Remember this:
Sometimes we need to put aside everything
so that we can see jesus!
Just like Zaccheus!
Remember this:
It requires efforts in order for us to see
Jesus!
Remember this:

I Sometimes we need to do an extra mile in

order for us to see and encounter Jesus in
our lives.
Luke 19:4
4. He ran on ahead, and climbed up into a
sycamore tree to see him,
It was on the sycamore tree where Zaccheus
was able to see Jesus.
Luke 19:5-6
5. When Jesus came to the place, he looked
up and saw him, and said to him,
“Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for
today I must stay at your house.”
6. He hurried, came down, and received him
joyfully.
Luke 19:7
7. When they saw it, they all murmured,
saying, “He has gone in to lodge with a man
who is a Sinner.”
Judging others by doing different sin!
This is exactly what the crowds are doing.
We are very good lawyers for our own mistakes,
but very good judges for the mistakes of others.
Are you Doing this?
Take note for this one.
Do not judge others because they sin
differently than you!
The Hindering Crowd a Sycamore tree

Which one are you?

Think about this:
Do we need to be mute
just like the sycamore tree
so we will stop gossiping
and talking bad about
others?
Think about this:

Do we need to be blind
just like the sycamore tree
so we will not see the
bad side of others?
Think about this:
Do we need not to have
soul just like the sycamore
tree
so we can treat others
nisely?
Remember this:
The sycamore tree has no
soul to feel, eyes to see,
mouth to utter words. but it
is a comfortplace to stay
and see Jesus.
Sometimes it is not about the tree,
it is not about the church, but the crowd
inside or outside of it.
Luke 19:8
8. Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord,
“Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to
the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted
anything of anyone, I restore four times as
much.”
Transformation!
there is always a transformation when you come and talk to Jesus!
