- By the word Linguistic meaning it is relating to language.

- Linguistics is the scientific study of language, and its focus


is the systematic investigation of the properties of particular
languages as well as the characteristics of language in History

The origin of language can be a single proto-language


that slowly evolved and was transported to different
parts of the world. The similar words found in
languages that look completely different can be
supporting evidence.
Who discovered linguistics?
Ferdinand de Saussure

Ferdinand de Saussure (1857– 1913) is acknowledged


as the founder of modern linguistics and semiology,
and as having laid the groundwork for structuralism
and post-structuralism.
When was linguistics discovered

Linguistics as a western discipline therefore has its


roots in ancient India, in the study and preservation of
sacred texts. The grammarian Panini wrote a
description of Sanskrit in about 1500 B.C. which is
still unexcelled.
• Why do we need to study linguistics? and how does it
affects in society?

Linguistics helps us understand our world Apart from simply


understanding the intricacies of world languages, this
knowledge can be applied to improving communication
between people, contributing to translation activities, assisting
in literacy efforts, and treating speech disorders.
• What is the importance of linguistics on our society?

Linguistic is important in our society because language is the


primary means of communication. It is the ability to use
language that allows us to share our thoughts, feelings, and
experiences with others. Language is also a key aspect of our
identity. It is how we express who we are and where we
come from.
