Opening Prayer
Live Jesus forever in our hearts Oh my God, I believe in You
Strengthen my faith, I hope in You. Confirm my hope, I love
You
Make me love You more and more I am sorry for my sins,
increase my sorrow. Jesus meek and humble of heart, Make our
hearts like Yours

O Mary conceived without sin, Pray for us who have

recourse to thee.

Part 02

n
Let’s start.
Do you think life is fair?
Why or why not?
Part 02

Review
Let’s recall some of the previous
lessons.
Determine the angle
measures.
What are the measures of the
angles in quadrant I, II, III and IV?
What is a quadrantal
angle?
What are some examples of
quadrantal angles?

The Two Types of
Trigonometric
Equations

Trigonometric Equations

Linear Trigonometric Equations

Quadratic Trigonometric Equation

Solving Trigonometric
Equations
Remember that should always be
between and .
Linear Trigonometric Equations
are equations of the first degree, which means that the
highest power of the terms is 1.

Examples:
Quadratic Trigonometric Equations
are equations of the second degree, which means that
the highest power of the terms is 2.

Examples:
Example 1

Solve the equation

4 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=− 4+2
4 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=−2
−1
𝜃=sin −
1
2( )
1 𝜃=− 30 °
𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=−
2 𝜃=− 30 °+360 °
Sin is negative. So it
should be in quadrant III 𝜃=330 ° Q
Example 1

Solve the equation

𝜃=330 ° 𝑖𝑛𝑄𝐼𝑉 We need to get the other in quadrant III
𝜃 𝑅 =360 ° −330 ° formula for QIV
𝜃 𝑅 =30 °
𝜃 𝑅 =𝜃 −180 ° formula for QIII
30 °=𝜃 −180 °
30 °+180 °=𝜃 𝜃=210 ° 𝑖𝑛𝑄𝐼𝐼𝐼
Example 2

Solve the equation

( 2 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃 −1 ) ( 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃+ 1 )=0 𝜃=cos
−1
()
1
2
2 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃 −1=0 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃+1=0 𝜃=60 ° 𝑖𝑛𝑄𝐼
2𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃=1 𝜃 𝑅 =𝜃 𝜃 𝑅 =60 °
𝜃 𝑅 =360 ° − 𝜃 for QIV
Cos is positive. So 𝜃=360 ° −60 °
1 it should be in
𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃=
2 quadrant I and IV 𝜃=300 ° 𝑖𝑛𝑄𝐼𝑉
Example 2

Solve the equation

( 2 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃 −1 ) ( 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃+ 1 )=0
2 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃 −1=0 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃+1=0 𝜃=180 °
𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝜃=−1
Cos is negative. So it should be in
quadrant II and III. However, it is
actually quadrantal
Example 3

Solve the equation

2 𝑡𝑎𝑛𝜃=−1 −1
𝜃=tan −
1
( 2)
−1
𝑡𝑎𝑛 𝜃=
2 𝜃=− 26.57 °
Tan is negative. So it 𝜃=− 26.57 °+360 °
should be in quadrant II 𝜃=333.43 ° 𝐐𝐈𝐕
and IV
Example 3

Solve the equation

We need to find the angle for QII

For
𝜃=333.43 °
QII ° − 𝜃
𝜃 𝑅 =180
𝜃 𝑅 =360 ° −333.43 °
𝜃 𝑅 =26.57 ° 26.57 °=180 °− 𝜃
𝜃=153.43 °
Example 4 (1st part using positive)

Solve the equation

Use the quadratic formula:

2 ± √ 4 +60 2±8
𝜃=sin
−1
()
3
5
𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=− ¿−
10 10
in QI
3 Sin is positive. So it
𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=
5 should be in quadrant I
and II
Example 4 (1st part using positive)

Solve the equation

We need to find the angle for QII

𝜃=36.87 ° 𝜃 𝑅 =180 ° − 𝜃
𝜃 𝑅 =𝜃 𝜃=180 ° −36.87 °
𝜃 𝑅 =36.87 ° in QII
Example 4 (2nd part using negative)

Solve the equation

Use the quadratic formula:
𝜃=sin −1 ( −1 )

𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=−
2 ± √ 4 +60
¿−
2±8 𝜃=− 90 °
10 10
𝜃=− 90 °+36 0 °
𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=−1 Sin is negative. So it
should be in quadrant III 𝜃=270 °
and IV.
Example 5

Solve the equation

2 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=1
2 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=1
𝜃=sin ()
−1 1
2

1 in QI
𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜃=
2
Sin is positive. So it
should be in quadrant I
Example 5

Solve the equation

We need to find the angle for QII

𝜃=30 ° 𝜃 𝑅 =180 ° − 𝜃
𝜃 𝑅 =𝜃 𝜃=180 ° −30 °
𝜃 𝑅 =30 ° in QII
Think about this!
Exercise your mind.
What is the process of solving
Linear Trigonometric
Equations?
How is it different from solving Quadratic Trigonometric
Identities?
Why can’t we have
answers from all
quadrants?
How do we choose which quadrants will have the final answer?
Is equality in real life similar to
fairness?
Think of a situation where it came to your mind that
life is not fair to everyone.

Closing Prayer
We thank You a hundredfold for the love and care that You have
given us. May we return to You Your good works by multiplying
it with love and respect, adding more faith, subtracting worldly
behavior and evil works, and dividing Your given talents to
others, so we can sum them all and be united as one in Your
family. In this we pray, Amen.
