Research objective
● This study determines relationship between students’ emotional
intelligence and their ability to work effectively within a team.
● This study analyzes the team dynamics of a successful and dysfunctional
team.
● This study analyzes the role of emotional intelligence on the success of the
teamwork.
01. Does Emotional Intelligence
Affect Successful Teamwork?
(Joe Luca & Pina Tarricone, 2011)
Research context
Research findings
H1: There are much commonality between successful teamwork and
EI ACCEPTED
H2: Positive, effective interpersonal relationships are an important
element of successful teams. ACCEPTED
H3: A positive emotional climate will lead to the success of the
project. ACCEPTED
01. Does Emotional Intelligence Affect
Successful Teamwork?
(Joe Luca & Pina Tarricone, 2011)
Our analysis
Research has demonstrated that:
• Team members’ emotional intelligence played a pivotal role in determining the success and functionality of the team, and the quality
of final product being developed.
• Emotional intelligence skills underpin collaboration and communication skills needed for managing conflict and keeping the team
focused on developing the required product.
The study used Likert scale based on questions related to Goleman’s (1998) five emotional intelligences: self-awareness, self-regulation,
motivation, empathy, social skill. Student responses will give an average score of each attribute from which to evaluate the student's
current emotional intelligence skill. This is an evaluation instrument used to assess students’ emotional intelligence, to help advise
students on how best to implement strategies to help with teamwork.
Our group agreed this questionnaire of Goleman is useful and appropriate for the purposes we were looking for, so we decided to
employ it into our research.
02. Freshman Students’ Emotional
Intelligence and Teamwork
Satisfaction Levels
(Tanju Deveci, 2015)
Research objective
Research context
● Study of Freshman Students from the Petroleum Institute (PI).
● This is comparative study of Freshman Students’ Emotional
Intelligence and Teamwork Satisfaction Levels between Gender and
Nationality
02. Freshman Students’ Emotional
Intelligence and Teamwork
Satisfaction Levels
(Tanju Deveci, 2015)
Research findings
Our analysis
• The study summarizes the influence of EI of freshmen on group work performance and it presents results based on surveys of
students taking courses that require teamwork.
This is similar to our research, so we want to employ that.
• In addition, research results show that there was a positive correlation between the EI scores for the group of all students and their
teamwork satisfaction scores, along with another conclusion that learners with higher EI scores are likely to understand others '
emotions and be successful at tackling potential problems.
This research result is similar to our original purpose, it is also one of the criteria that our survey aspires to achieve.
03. Effects of EI on Academic
Performance among Business
Students in Pakistan
(Sania Zahra; Shahid Sehrish, 2016)
Research objective
● To show that EI successfully predicts job performance and leadership
skills.
● To evaluate the impact of EI on academic performance of business
students.
● To analyze if business schools contribute to the development of EI in
students.
03. Effects of EI on Academic
Performance among Business
Students in Pakistan
(Sania Zahra; Shahid Sehrish, 2016)
Research context
Research findings
Our analysis
• The article has same objectives (Effects of EI on Academic Performance) and target audience (Business Students) to our
research, so we want to use some information from this article.
• We want to use Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form (TEIQue SF) and academic performance through
GPA as in this study to measure students' EI.
• This study employed Stratified sampling. We agreed it is a good way to collect the variables because there will be less error
and the variables will be more suitable for our purposes, for example classifying freshmen and seniors.
• Research shows that Students who are emotionally intelligent improves the relationship between peers and helps in the
intellectual development which leads to superior academic performance (Berndt, 1999; Ford & Smith, 2007; Schutte et al.,
2001), this information is valuable to us because it makes clear that emotional intelligence really has a big influence on the
way people treat their relationships, specifically teammates as in our research.
• The disadvantage of the research questionnaire that is answered by students' self-perceived abilities but not actual abilities. It
would not be valuable if future research assess actual emotional intelligence capabilities.
04. Impact of teamwork on
employee performance
(Jacklyne Nafula Sanyanda; Dr. David Kiiru, 2016)
Research objective
● To expound on the factors which are associated with teamwork.
● To examine the effects of positive and negative teamwork relations on
employee performance.
● To show the widespread effects of the relations outlined above on the
organization at large.
04. Impact of teamwork on
employee performance
(Jacklyne Nafula Sanyanda; Dr. David Kiiru, 2016)
Research context
The study focused mainly on factors that were associated with the
teamwork approach at the job environment and their contribution on
the employee performance and as a result overall performance of
Kenyatta University.
04. Impact of teamwork on
employee performance
(Jacklyne Nafula Sanyanda; Dr. David Kiiru, 2016)
Hypotheses
H1: Leadership has impact on employee performance.
H2: Trust among members has impact on employee performance.
H3: Recognition and performance appraisal have impact on employee
performance.
04. Impact of teamwork on
employee performance
(Jacklyne Nafula Sanyanda; Dr. David Kiiru, 2016)
Research findings
Our analysis
• This study employed purposive sampling. The main instrument used to collect data for this study was mainly a questionnaire and an
interactive interview. The instrument was structured in a simple format where simple questions, open-ended, were framed based on
the set objectives of the study
• The study employed qualitative data analysis techniques to calculate the percentages and frequencies - the data presented in the
tables and bar charts using SPSS.
We have seen that purposive sampling is the most favorable method in the qualitative method since it helps us make the most
out of a small population of interest and arrive at valuable research outcomes. Purposive sampling allows the researcher to
gather qualitative responses, which leads to better insights and more precise research results. We consider that this is not one of
the best sample design methods for our research.
05. EI, Creativity and Academic
Achievement of Business
Administration Students
(R. Ademola Olatoye; S.O. Akintunde; M.I. Yakasi 3, 2010)
Research objective
Research context
Research findings
Our analysis
• This study investigated the extent to which the level of creativity and EI influenced the level of academic achievement on business administration students,
so it appropriate with our study.
• The study used WLEIS which is a 16-item self-report scale, based on Davies (1998) four-dimensional definition of EI. It positively built on Mayer, Caruso,
Salovey (1999) EI Test (MSCEIT) regarded as being among the best scales (Abi-Samra, 2000). The questionnaires were designed such that it should not
last for more than 20 minutes to complete, this would minimize the problem of respondents’ boredom and impatience usually associated with administering
this type of instrument when they are lengthy.
From the results of the scale, we will consider to employ it for our study.
• In the study, the independent variables (creativity and EI of Polytechnic students) and the dependent variable (academic achievement) have already
occurred. To identify and compare the variables (without manipulating them) for the purpose of making inferences about their relationship, the study has
adopted Ex-post-facto research design to find out and describe the extent to which the level of creativity and emotional intelligence influenced the level of
academic achievement of business administration students of Polytechnics.
We found this design is useful so we want to use it for our research.
• The research shows that the teaching methods and environment might also be inhibiting the EI potentials of students, which shows that external factors also
have an impact on EI, so it is a variable that affects the outcome of the study.
• The research proves that there is no significant difference in the EI, creativity and academic achievement of male and female students, just opposite to
popular stereotype. So our group will consider to eliminate the Gender questions in our study.

MEASUREMENT REVISION
Original scale
● Scale origin of Emotion Intelligence was inherited by Mixed Model of
Emotional Intelligence (MEI), which was first introduced by Daniel
Goleman (1998).
● It focuses on a wide range of competencies which drive among other
things entrepreneurial success. Mixed models of EI combine mental
ability with personality characteristics.
● The model has 5 dimensions:
● Self-Awareness
● Self-Regulation
● Motivation
● Empathy
● Social Skills
MEASUREMENT REVISION
Original scale method
5-point Self-Assessment Practices Scales (SaPS) (Yan and Brown, 1999)
● SaPS was designed to get respondents thinking about their perception of their
level of EI ability.
● The items are measured on a 5-point scales ranging from 1 to 5:
5 High A- Excellent
3 Average C - Moderate
2 Low D - Poor
1 No E - Bad
