Three Models
of
Communication
Linear Model of Communication
- It is a one-way or unidirectional direction in which the speaker delivers
messages to the listener, which may or may not have any effect. It is
straightforward because it merely presents the start and finish of
communication; therefore, there is no interchanging of communication roles
among communicators. Linear model of communication has a sender, receiver,
channel, encoder, decoder, and noise.
Example: (Television Broadcast)
Noli de Castro broadcasts news through televisions and radios. In this
scenario, Noli de Castro is the sender and the people around the country who
watch or listen is the receiver.

Transactional Communication Model
- The transactional model of communication is defined as a continuous flow of
information in which the sender and receiver are both participants in the process and
take turns communicating messages. To keep communication open under this type of
communication, both message senders and receivers must be active at the same time. In
this model of communication, the communication evolves in the origin until the existing
moment. The sender, encoder, channel, decoder, receiver and noise are the present
elements of communication in this model of communication.
Example:
-There is an activity that will be working by pair. The activity is all about the lesson
yesterday. Since you already both know the topic is all about, you and your partner
exchanged ideas on how you will analyze and solve the problem. After exchanging ideas
and analyzing the problem, you and your partner finally solved it and got the highest
score.

Interactive Communication Model
- Itis also known as the Schramm Model of Communication's convergence model. It
highlights the coding and decoding aspects of the process, as well as the message
exchanges between the sender and recipient. Communication is a two-way street with a
sender and a receiver, as opposed to being linear or one-way. The elements of
communication that is present in this model o communication are the sender, encoder,
decoder, receiver, message, feedback, medium, noise and field of experience.
Example:
- You have not talked to your grandma in a while so you called and your grandma
was so happy. As the call continues, you updated each other about how was life going
and what are your plans in Christmas. After you ended the call, you send a message to
your grandma to be safe and that you’ll call her again net time.
