ETOPS - Concept of threshold

There are sets of Certification & Operational requirements, called ETOPS (or
EDTO) which apply when an aircraft is operated beyond applicable threshold

Threshold:
Given time/distance from an airport
En-route alternate airport

Not impacted

Destination

Departure

Approval Required

EDTO: Extended Diversion Time Operations

ETOPS: Extended Twin engine A/C OPerationS

Module M03 rev 04Jul18

ETOPS - Maximum Diversion Time

These Certification & Operational requirements also introduce the concept of Maximum
Diversion Time, thus defining an approved authorized area of operations

Maximum Diversion Time:

Given time/distance from an airport

En-route alternate airport

Destination

Departure

Approved area of operations

Key Points
 For ETOPS certified A/C, AIRBUS has developed a Configuration,
Maintenance and Procedure (CMP) Document.

 All the Scheduled Maintenance Tasks identified in the CMP are also
included into the MPD.

 A CMP is an Authority Approved Document and is regularly updated.

 The MPD reflects all new or modified source documents (MRBR, ALS &
CMP) in the next MPD revision. Changes between two MPD revisions are
communicated via the MPD Revision Information File.
