Multicultural societies are characterized by people of
different races, ethnicities, and nationalities living together in
the same community. In multicultural communities, people
retain, pass down, celebrate, and share their unique cultural
ways of life, languages, art, traditions, and behaviors.

Climate Differences

Each region has a different climate. The climate in an


area is influenced by the geographic location and
topography of the area. Climate has a big influence on
people's patterns of life and culture. Climate
differences cause differences in living patterns between
communities in each region. For example, the lifestyle
of people living in tropical areas is different from
people living in subtropical areas.

Multicultural Society
• Racial Diversity: It indicates the grouping of people based on physical
differences and characteristics.
• Religious Diversity: This relates to the various religions practiced by the
community. In Indonesia, for example, there are diverse religions recognized
by the government, as well as some local belief systems followed by certain
ethnic groups.
• Ethnic/Cultural Diversity: This shows groups of people who share similar
cultural backgrounds, identities, and traditions. Factors that distinguish one
ethnic group from another include their place of origin, customs, kinship
systems, language, and regional arts.
• Professional/Employment Diversity: It encompasses the variety of
occupations and jobs that individuals have. Professions are linked to specific
skills that individuals possess and are a means for individuals to earn a
living to meet their needs.

INDONESIA

The social and cultural diversity in Indonesia is a social


fact that can be considered as an example of a multicultural
society. Therefore, the cultural, ethnic, social, and religious
diversity in Indonesia should be seen as a richness, not as a
potential problem within the Republic of Indonesia.
Ethnic Diversity in Singapore
Singapore is one of the developed countries in
Southeast Asia. Singapore serves as a clear example
of a multicultural society rich in ethnic diversity. In
this country, there are four main ethnic groups,
namely Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Eurasian, living
alongside each other and contributing to the cultural
elements and national identity.
