POSSESSIVE NOUNS

A possessive noun is a noun that


names who or what owns or has
possession of something.

How to form possessive nouns?

1. Add –’s to the singular form of the noun.


Ex. life of a person – person’s life
pride of a country – country’s pride
voice of a singer – singer’s voice

2. Add (’ ) only to the plural nouns ending in -s


Ex. the excitement of the pupils – pupils’ excitement
residents of the cities – cities’ residents
the readiness of the parents – parents’ readiness

Ex. freedom of the children – children’s freedom
