Conversion of Units
Dimensional Analysis
• is the study of the relation between physical
quantities based on their units and dimensions.
• is used to convert a unit from one form to another.
• while solving mathematical problems, it is
necessary to keep the units the same to solve the
problem easily.
How many feet is there in 25 inches?

12 in
Which is longer, 300 ft or 29 meters?
Given: l1 = 300 ft = 91.44m
l2 = 90 meters
Required: Which longer l1 or l2?
Solution:
L1 in m = 300 ft x 30.48cm x 1 m = 91.44m
ft 100cm
∴ l1 (91.44m) l2 (90 m)
or l1 is longer
A girl weighs 50 lbs while a boy next to her
weighs 24 kg. Which of the two kids is heavier?
Given: Required: Which is heavier, mg or mb?
mg= 50 lbs
mb = 24 kg
Solution:
mb in lbs = 24 kg x 2.2 lbs = 52.8 lbs; the mass of the
1 kg boy is greater than the
mass of the girl
Solution #2
mg = 50 lbs x 1 kg = 22.73 kg
2.2 lbs
Therefore the mass of the boy is heavier at 24 kg compared to
the mass of the girl which is 22.73 kg.
