You are doing action research on the prevalence of underweight children in your class. You
would like.
construct a questionnaire to find out what is average, above average and below average value.
The following are the weights in Kg of Grade 5 students in one class: 22 kg, 25 kg, 30 kg, 27 kg and 24 kg.

1. Find the mean.

To find the mean (average) of the given data, we add all the values and divide the sum by the
total number of values:
Mean = (22 kg + 25 kg + 30 kg + 27 kg + 24 kg) / 5
Mean = 128 kg / 5
Mean = 25.6 kg
Therefore, the mean of the given data is 25.6 kg.

2. Calculate for the variance.

To calculate the variance of the given data, we first need to find the mean (average) of the data:
Mean = (22 kg + 25 kg + 30 kg + 27 kg + 24 kg) / 5
Mean = 128 kg / 5
Mean = 25.6 kg
Next, we find the difference between each data point and the mean, and square each difference:
(22 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 12.96
(25 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 0.36
(30 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 19.36
(27 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 1.96
(24 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 2.56
3. Calculate for the variance.

To calculate the variance of the given data, we first need to find the mean (average) of the data:
Mean = (22 kg + 25 kg + 30 kg + 27 kg + 24 kg) / 5
Mean = 128 kg / 5
Mean = 25.6 kg

Then, we sum up all of the squared differences:

12.96 + 0.36 + 19.36 + 1.96 + 2.56 = 37.20

Finally, we divide the sum of squared differences by the total number of data points to get the
variance:
Variance = 37.2 / 5
Variance = 7.44
Therefore, the variance of the given data is 7.44 kgs.
4. Calculate for the standard deviation.

To calculate the standard deviation of the given data, we first need to find the variance by
following the steps in the previous question:
1. Find the mean:
Mean = (22 kg + 25 kg + 30 kg + 27 kg + 24 kg) / 5
Mean = 128 kg / 5
Mean = 25.6 kg
2. Find the squared differences:
(22 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 13.96
(25 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 0.36
(30 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 21.16
(27 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 2.56
(24 kg - 25.6 kg) ^2 = 2.56
3. Sum up the squared differences:
13.96 + 0.36 + 21.16 + 2.56 + 2.56 = 37.2

4. Divide by n=5 to get the variance:

Variance = 40.6 / 5
Variance = 7.44
Now, we can find the standard deviation by taking the square root of the variance:
Standard deviation = sqrt(7.44)
Standard deviation = 2.73
Therefore, the standard deviation of the given data is 2.73 kg.

4.Determine the average weight, above average, below average and so on.
To find the average weight for the given data, we can calculate the mean:
Mean = (22 kg + 25 kg + 30 kg + 27 kg + 24 kg) / 5
Mean = 128 kg / 5
Mean = 25.6 kg
So, the average weight is 25.6 kg.

To determine which weights are above or below average, we can compare each data point to the
mean:

Very High Average: 33.79-36.52

High Average: 31.06-33.7

Above Average: 28.33-31.06

Average: 25.60

Below Average: 22.87-25.60

Very Low Average: 20.14-22.87
