STORY SKATEBOARDING
SOMERSET

Skateboarding Somerset will follow the story of the skate scene in England’s cider
county.

Caught between the two most prominent birthplaces of British skateboarding in

Cornwall and Bristol during the 70s, was Somerset ever affected by the boom in a
new culture?

To the naked eye, the answer is hard to decipher. But take a deeper look into
some of the county’s rural towns - where unbeknown to most, rich skate
hotspots are flourishing.

This is Skateboarding Somerset.

STEVENS
PURPOSE SKATEBOARDING
SOMERSET

This documentary aims to uncover a largely unnoticed community

in the Somerset County.

It will educate those that wish to understand more about the area’s
more recent history, as well as providing an insight into an ever-
expanding culture.

Skateboarding Somerset will be made to represent the skate

community in the area, telling their story to present to the rest of
the county, country or even world

OVERVIEW
SOUND RECORDIST/ASSISTANT EDITOR
• Matthew Bailey
• My job role is the Sound Recordist. My main role is to
make sure the audio quality is the best it can be, and
that it is consistently good.
• I have chosen to be the sound recordist due to my
opinion of it being arguably the most pivotal role in a
film crew as the audience gets the feeling of the film or
piece of media through sound.
• My other role is that of an Assistant editor, My role
here is to give our Main editor, Ben Stevens, ideas and
to also take some editing time away from him so that
he can get a break or produce ideas of his own.

OVERVIEW
Budgeting
• We don’t have to worry about budgeting due to
the fact we have all the equipment provided to
us by the amazing facilities here at
Weston college, however this is how
much it would cost if we didn’t have this luxury:
• Sony X70 camera. 1000 pounds
• Rode Boom Pole. 115 pounds.
• Rode Microphone. 225 pounds
• Tripod. 145 pounds
• Zoom H4. 185 pounds

OVERVIEW
• We have 3 main production stages in
this project. Pre-Production, Filming and
Post-Production.
• Pre-Production will take just short of two
months to go through, making sure
we spend a day to do all of the paperwork
and things like that,
• We have a dedicated two-week filming
window that starts on the 6th of November
and ends on the 20th of November.
• Post-Production will be weaved into this
filming window due to the handing in date
which is the 20th of November.

OVERVIEW
LOCATIONS
CHEDDAR LOCATIONS

The reason we chose

Cheddar as a location is
its relevance in the
skating community 13
years after its initial
opening. This is evidence
of how rich skateboarding
is in Somerset.

ISAAC
PHILLIPS
WESTON LOCATIONS

The Reason we chose

Weston Seafront is to
show the dynamic
between skating at a park
to street skating. Also, to
find out why Weston
skate parks don’t get
used.

ISAAC
PHILLIPS
NAILSEA LOCATIONS

The reason we chose

Nailsea is because there
is an annual skate fest at
the park where a lot of
people who attend. This
also shows its relevance
to the somerset
skateboarders.
