c) Lighting
Lighting was based on openings (windows)
and skylights, and the intensity of the sun’s
heat was reduced by placing “mashrabiyas” on
the windows.

c) Lighting
The benefits of having water pools and
fountains in the Courtyard area were not only
limited to cooling the place, but also to
distributing lighting so that the sun’s rays fell
on the water, so the sun’s rays were reflected
and distributed according to the degree of the
sun’s fall.
d) Water
_The building relied on water provided by the
state, and it also depended on rainwater, so the
exterior design of the building included a well,
which was used for plants outside.
_ Water was recycled and used in the fountains
located inside the Courtyard area. There were two
types of fountains (the fixed fountain and the
moving fountain).

e) Ventilation
1) “Mashrabiyas”:
_The principle of operation of “mashrabiyas” is to
bring air in through small openings, so it was based on
the physical principle Perforated air, so that the air
moves from the higher temperature to the lower
temperature, and since the openings are small, the air
molecules remain cohesive and enter through the small
openings, which leads to the cooling of the incoming
air.
_ Water jars were placed at the window in which there
was a mashrabiya, to make the air inside cooler, and to
cool the water inside the jar.

2)Window:
The windows were in a longitudinal shape in the facades,
and most of the openings were at a high level of the
building to allow the largest amount of air to enter the
building, so that when the cold air entered the place, it
became heavy and descended into the building from the
inside and spread around, so that the old air (hot air)
became light. He goes upstairs and exits the building
through the windows.

3) (‫ )الشخشيخة‬:
It is based on the principle of skylight and
is at the highest height of one of the
rooms. It helps provide ventilation and
lighting for the hall above it. The rattle
works with the hanger to cool down the
air temperature by drawing in the hot air
at the top. the room
f) Vegetation
_The interior design of the courtyard was based on
ornamental plants and green grass to give the place
more attractiveness. Among the plants present was
the jasmine plant, so that when the wind came, the
scent of jasmine spread in the garden and throughout
the place.
_ Vegetation cover was an important element in the
building’s exterior and interior design, as cypress
trees surrounded the building to give privacy to the
place and to repel the strong winds that blow in
winter.
