CRIME VOLUME– Refers to the number of crimes committed in a

given area over a period of time. The total number of crime incidents
reported or brought to the attention of the police units/offices or any other
law enforcement agencies having jurisdiction over the case.
Example: A total of 150 crimes are reported in the Municipal Police
Station of Bangued for the month of January to June 2021. This figures
reflect the total crime volume in the said municipality for the period
covered.
POPULATION DENSITY – Refers to the number of
inhabitants per unit of geographical area.

Formula: P
PD =
C

PD = Population Density
Example : 240,
100 P = Population
PD = 100,
000 C = Constant
CRIME DENSITY – Refers to the number of crimes every 100, 000
population in a given period of time. It is obtained by dividing the Total
Crime Volume (TCV) by the Population Density.
Formula:
CV
CD =
PD

ExampleCV := Crime Volume 404

CD =
24.01 PD = Population Density
MONTHLY CRIME RATE – Refers to the frequency of crime
occurrence by month for every 100,000 population in a particular
geographical location. Crime rate measure of a rate of occurrence of
crimes committed in a given area and over a period of time.
Formula: CV x C
MCR =
P
Example : 250 x
MCR = Monthly Crime Rate
100,000
CV MCR == Crime Volume
135,000
C = Constant

25, 000, 000

AVERAGE MONTHLY CRIME RATE AMCR = Average Monthly Crime
Rate
CV = Crime Volume
Formula: CV x C C = Constant
AMCR = P P = Population
NOM = Number of months

Example :
NOM 250 x
100,000
AMCR =
135,000

25, 000, 000

CRIME SOLUTION EFFICIENCY – Refers to the battling average of a
law enforcement agency in the solution of crime.
Formula: x 100 NSE
CSE = NCR

CSE = Crime Solution Efficiency

NCS = Number of Crimes Solved

Example : NCR =x 100Number 9of Crimes Reported

CSE = 10
0.9 x
100

CSE = 90%
FREQUENCY OF CRIME– Refers to the frequency of occurrence of a
particular crime incident committed in a given area over a period of time, it
is also similarly known as CRIME CLOCK.
Formula:
FC = FC NOD
of Crime
= Frequency

NOD = NOI
Number of Days
NOI = Number of Incidents
Example : 90
FC = 35
D = 2.57
=FC
.57= x2 days,
24 13 hours, 40 minutes & 48 Seconds
H = 13.68 OR
= .68 x 60 61hours, 40 Minutes & 48 seconds
M = 40.80
= .80 x 60
S = 48
ARREST RATE – Refers to the battling average of law enforcement
agency in the accounting of persons with warrants of arrest.
Formula: x 100 WPA
MCR = WAR

AR = Arrest Rate

WPA = Wanted Persons Arrested

Example : 9
WAR x= 100 Warrant of Arrest Received
AR = 10

0.9 x 100
AR =
PERCENTAGE DISTRIBUTION – Refers to the share of the different
crimes in terms of percent, compared with the total volume in a
geographical location.
Formula: x 100 PC
% = CV

% = Percentage
Example : 65
PC x 100 = Particular Crimes
% = 95
CV = Crime Volume
0.68 x 100
AR =
PERCENTAGE INCREASE AND DECREASE– Percentage increase and
decrease of two different total crime volumes recorded in a given geographical location
over two different periods of time. There are two different formulas in the computation,
one for percentage increase and one for percentage decrease.
%I = Percentage
Formula: x 100
d Increase
%I = HCV
%D = Percentage
Decrease
x 100 d = Difference of
d
Crime Volume
%D = LCV
HCV = Higher Crime Volume

40 LCV
40 = Lower Crime Volume
%I = x 100 %D= 180
220
= .1818 = .2222
x 100 x 100

%I = %D =
18.18% 22.22%
