WHAT IS RESEARCH
DISSEMINATION?
- delivering your research findings to the individuals who can utilize them
as soon as possible in order to maximize the usefulness of the
research
- is an important part of the research process, passing on the benefits to
other researchers, professional practitioners and the wider community.

WHY IS RESEARCH
DISSEMINATION IMPORTANT:
- is an important aspect of the research process because it
ensures that the benefits of the study are passed on to
others and that it is put to good use.

research/
WHY IS RESEARCH
DISSEMINATION IMPORTANT:
- draw the attention of governments or stakeholders to the
research outcomes, giving a social, political, or economic
impact.
- boost its visibility, comprehension, and even execution

HOW RESEARCH IS
DISSEMINATED:
Formal publication -
refereed academic journals or books,
but this is not always the case.

research/
WAYS OF RESEARCH
DISSEMINATION:
This section of the Framework applies to all forms of
dissemination of research findings, refereed and non-
refereed, in any medium of communication, including
conferences, public performance and public exhibition.

Transforming a
Technical Paper into
a Poster
Turning a Research Paper into a
Poster
*This handout will walk you through the process of turning a
research paper into a research poster.

Refer to the “Example Research Project”, as it is used as the

research paper for making this example poster.

*The goal of making a poster is to present your information in a

visually appealing and easy to understand format.
Figures, tables, and main ideas are very important!!
Turning a Research Paper into a
Poster
*Use the provided Poster Template as a start for your own
poster.

Feel free to resize sections if you need more room or if you

have too much space.

*Try to include as much blank space as possible. Large

blocks of text are difficult to read quickly, and
brevity is key!
Step 1. Adding Author Information and Title
● Very long titles should be broken apart in an appropriate
pause (like immediately after a colon) and included on to
lines instead of one.
● The font should be around 24-28 point.
Step 2. Adding the Introduction
● Insert a text box and paste in your introduction (all 3 short
summaries of your articles, the integration of the articles, and
your hypotheses).
● Shorten the content (of the summaries and integration) slightly
by pulling out your main ideas.
● Do not remove the citations!
● Separate your hypotheses from the rest of the introduction with
the heading “Hypotheses”.
STEP 2 CONT
● All of them should be either numbered or bullet-pointed for
simplicity.
● The font should be around 24-28 point.
● Insert a text box and paste in your introduction (all 3 short
summaries of your articles, the integration of the articles,
and your hypotheses).
● Shorten the content (of the summaries and integration)
slightly by pulling out your main ideas.
STEP 2 CONT
Step 3: Adding the Method Section
● Again you will keep most of the information, but shorten it into
bullet points.
● For your materials: o 1 bullet can be used for any variables that
are single-item questions (i.e., demographics questions).
● You should have 1 bullet for each scale you used.
● The font should be around 24-28 point.
STEP 2 CONT
Step 4: Adding the Results Section
● Again, paste your section into a text box.
● The first sentence, which is separate from the rest of the
information, should refer to your table 1 of univariate statistics.
● Separate your paragraphs by what hypothesis you are
addressing, and keep them in order of how you listed them in
the introduction.
● Underline and/or bold the key findings for each hypothesis.
● The font should be around 24-28 point.
STEP 2 CONT
Step 5: Adding the Discussion Section
● Paste your information into a text box and summarize
accordingly.
● DO NOT INCLUDE THE PROPOSAL SECTION!!
● The font should be around 24-28 point
STEP 2 CONT
Step 6: Adding your References
● Paste you references directly into a text box.
● Hanging indents are not necessary.
● The references do not need to be the same font size as the rest;
12-16 point font is adequate.
STEP 2 CONT
Step 7: Adding Tables and Figures
● The easiest way to add figures to a poster made in a
PowerPoint (like our template) is to first make them in to images.

● Saving a table as an image (in Microsoft Word) in 6 easy steps:

1. Make the table using the insert table options in Word.
2. Highlight the entire table by clicking this icon in the top left
corner:
3. Copy the entire table using either the copy option in Word or Ctrl
+ C on the keyboard.
Step 7: Adding Tables and Figures
6. Tada! Your table is now an image that can easily be copied and
pasted into your poster, as well as resized to fit the poster.

Figures made in either SPSS or Excel can usually be directly

copied into PowerPoint without major formatting complications.

Table 1 should always be the first table listed on the poster.

Other tables and figures should follow in the order to which they
are referred in your text.
