1. Persekutuan Tanah Melayu
1 Pada amnya, rakyat Persekutuan Tanah Melayu melihat pembentukan gagasan Persekutuan
Malaysia sebagai usaha murni untuk membantu dan memimpin negeri-negeri anggota.
Pengalaman Persekutuan Tanah Melayu sebagai negara yang telah merdeka menjadi aset yang
boleh digunakan untuk memajukan Malayasia yang akan ditubuhkan.
2 Parti politik di Tanah Melayu menyokong cadangan Tunku Abdul Rahman pada
keseluruhannya. Mereka menerima prinsip gagasan Persekutuan Malaysia.
3 Perkara yang membezakan pandangan tersebut ialah cara pelaksanaan gagasan Persekutuan
Malaysia.
4 Parti Islam Se-Tanah Melayu (PAS) dan Barisan Sosialis mahu idea dirundingkan terlebih
dahulu dalam kalangan rakyat. gagasan
5 UMNO menyokong penggabungan dengan Sabah, Sarawak, dan Brunei tetapi tanpa
Singapura.
1 Di Singapura, Parti Tindakan Rakyat (PETIR) di bawah Lee Kuan Yew yang memenangi pilihan raya
umum pada 1959 ingin bergabung dengan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu

2 Perpecahan dalam PETIR berlaku berikutan perbezaan fahaman politik antara ahli yang berpendidikan
Inggeris dengan ahli yang berpendidikan Cina.

3 Ahli-ahli yang mendapat pendidikan Inggeris bersikap sederhana. Mereka bekerjasama dengan pihak
British. Kebanyakan ahli yang berpendidikan Cina pula berhaluan kiri dan cuba mendapatkan kuasa dengan
menentang penjajah British melalui PETIR.

4 Perpecahan dalam PETIR memuncak pada awal tahun 1960-an apabila ahli berpendidikan Cina
terpengaruh dengan fahaman komunis.

5 Lee Kuan Yew menghadapi tentangan hebat daripada ahli berpendidikan Cina yang berhaluan kiri.
6 Akibat perpecahan ini, PETIR kalah dalam pilihan raya kecil Hong Lim pada April 1961 dan pilihan raya
kecil Anson pada bulan Julai 1961.

7 Oleh sebab kekalahan ini, puak kiri Lim Chin Siong meninggalkan PETIR dan membentuk Barisan
Sosialis.
