Executive Summary
 Water pollution is a major global problem that requires immediate and effective
action. Nearly three-quarters of the world's population is affected by water
pollution, and over 1.8 million people die each year from water-related illnesses.

 Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans,
aquifers and groundwater). Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in
these bodies of water; and, in almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to
individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological
communities.

 Water pollution is caused by a variety of factors. Some water pollution is caused

by sewage and other wastewater that is not properly treated before being
discharged into water bodies. Other sources of water pollution include
agricultural runoff, urban runoff, and industrial effluent.

Short-term and long-term Solutions

Short-Term:

• Encourage villagers to plant trees and vegetation to help purify the water
• Educating villagers on the importance of clean water and proper sanitation
• Establishing a village garden to grow fruits and vegetables
• Cleaning the surroundings daily

Long-Term:

• Improving water quality at the source

• Improving wastewater treatment
• Implementing water conservation measures
• Establishing a water filtration system for the village
• Implementing a village-wide water recycling program
Awareness on Water Pollution
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, such as lakes,
rivers, oceans, groundwater, and aquifers. Water pollution can
result from a variety of sources, including oil spills, agricultural
runoff, sewage effluent, and industrial wastewater. Water pollution
can have a devastating impact on the environment, and human
health.

Causes of Water Pollution:
 Urban stormwater
 Sewage and wastewater
 Agricultural run-off
 Riverbank erosion
 Industrial discharges
 Mining
 Global warming

Effects of Water Pollution:

 Damage aquatic ecosystems
 Health problems
 Ecological damage
 Biological damage
 Contaminate drinking water
 Make water unsafe for swimming and other activities
Diseases caused by Water Pollution:

 Cholera
 Dysentery
 Typhoid fever
 Hepatitis-A
 Diarrhoea
 Amoebiasis

Ways to prevent Water Pollution:

 Dispose of Toxic Chemicals Properly

 Do Not Pour Fat and Grease Down the Drain
 Dispose of Medical Waste Properly
 Support Environmental Charities
 Try to Avoid Plastic Containers
 Cut Down on the Chemicals
Conclusion
Water pollution destroys important food sources and
contaminates drinking water with chemicals that can cause
immediate and long-term harm to human health. Water pollution
also often severely damages aquatic ecosystems. Rivers, lakes,
and oceans are used as open sewers for industrial and
residential waste.

Unless we stop the water pollution, definitely we are going to

have the shortage of water which we can’t even be imagined. So
kindly stop polluting water…
