Activity 1: Problem-Solving:
Last week, I assigned task for my students to
write an essay about “Bullying”. They were all
present so they have a perfect attendance.
After I checked their work, I found out that
some students did not passed their
assignments. For the section Maple, out of 36
students, only 30 were able to passed their
assignment. Solve the percentage data using
the formula:
__No. of students who actually passed x100=
No. of students in a section

-is defined as a formal style
of writing used in
universities and scholarly
publications. Its purpose is
to provide facts or
information. Some
examples include journal
articles, books on academic
topics, research papers,
and reports.

-Is written for the mass public. It
can be published quickly and can
be written by anyone. The
language used is informal, casual
and may contain slang. Personal

writing.

The Features of
Academic Writing 1. Complex
-It has longer words
with varied vocabulary
and usually
complicated grammar.
It connects ideas and
show relationship
between them.
2. Formal
-The tone of writing
must be formal. Essay
should avoid colloquial
words and expressions
(e.g “wanna, y’all,
gonna”). instead, spell
out the words (want to,
you all, going to).
3. Precise
-Information
should include
facts that uses
reliable sources.
4. Objective
-The main emphasis
should be on the
information and
arguments that is
intended to give
and it should not
not be personal.
5. Accurate
-Most subjects have
words with narrow
specific meanings
that makes the
reader understand
clearly what is being
conveyed.
6. Explicit
Writing must be clear
to the reader on how
the various parts of
the text are related.
