Introduction
– "Earthquake of North-East India." Earthquakes are natural
disasters that cause massive destruction and loss of lives,
and North-East India is one of the most vulnerable regions
to earthquakes in India.
– Nature of the soil is the main reason for earthquake
vulnerability in north east India.
– In this presentation, we will discuss the causes,
consequences, mitigation measures, and possible solutions
to reduce the impact of earthquakes in North-East India.
Objective of the project

– The primary objective of this study is to understand the

causes and consequences of earthquakes in North-East
India.
– This study aims to provide insights into the measures that
can be taken to mitigate the impact of earthquakes on the
lives of people living in this region.
Causes and consequences
– North-East India is located in a seismically active zone, making it
vulnerable to earthquakes.
– The region is located at the intersection of the Indian Plate and
the Eurasian Plate, which leads to tectonic activities. The collision
between these two plates results in the creation of the Himalayas,
making the region more prone to earthquakes.
– The consequences of earthquakes in North-East India include loss
of life, damage to property, and disruption of essential services.
– For instance, the earthquake that hit Manipur in 2016 resulted in
the death of 11 people and left more than 200 injured.
Result and discussion
 The government of India has taken several
measures to reduce the impact of earthquakes
in North-East India.
 One such initiative is the establishment of the
Northeast Centre for Seismology (NEC), which
monitors seismic activities in the region.
 The NEC also conducts research to understand
the causes of earthquakes in the region, which
can help in developing effective mitigation
measures
Mitigation measures
– Creating awareness among the local population about
the importance of earthquake-resistant construction
techniques.
– Strict implementation of building codes to ensure that
all buildings in the region are earthquake-resistant.
– Conducting regular earthquake drills to prepare people
for any eventuality.
– Developing an early warning system to alert people
about an incoming earthquake.
Conclusion
– In conclusion, earthquakes are a significant threat to the
lives and property of people in North-East India. The
government and other stakeholders must take proactive
measures to mitigate the impact of earthquakes on the
region. By creating awareness, implementing building
codes, conducting regular drills, and developing early
warning systems, we can reduce the impact of earthquakes
and save lives.
