The salt mines and the salt cathedral
One of the main attractions of
Zipaquira is the salt mines and the salt
cathedral, which are located in an
underground complex at 180 meters
deep. The salt mines have been
exploited since pre-Columbian times
by the Muisca people, who used salt as
a currency and a sacred element. The
salt cathedral is a religious and artistic
work that was built in 1995 inside an
old salt mine. It has three naves, 14
chapels, a dome and a cross that
symbolize the life, death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Feelings and opinion

Zipaquira is a place that transmits

history, culture and faith. It is a place
where you can learn about the ancient
traditions of the Muisca people, the
colonial legacy of the Spanish
conquerors and the modern engineering
of the salt cathedral. You can also enjoy
the natural beauty of the landscape, the
gastronomy and the handicrafts of the
region. You can interact with friendly and
hospitable people who are proud of their
identity and their values. I chose this
place because I think it is a unique place,
full of charm and wonder. I think it is a
place that everyone should visit at least
once in their life.
