LO 4: to compose reflection on wawasan nusantara, regional


autonomy, national integration, national resilience, digital literacy and
citizenship
Session Outcomes

By the end of this session, students will be able to:


1. Define Wawasan Nusantara
2. Describe the historical background of Wawasan Nusantara
3. Write a reflection on the importance of Wawasan Nusantara for
Indonesian national development.
Definition of Wawasan Nusantara
Professor Mochtar Kusumaatmadja defined Wawasan Nusantara as a
unified political viewpoint as a people and a country that
encompasses the geographical realities of an archipelagic nation
(Kusumaatmadja, 1995, p. 8).

According to Kelompok Kerja Lemhannas 1999, Wawasan Nusantara


is the views and attitudes of Indonesians with regards to their
diverse selves and environments along with their strategic values, all
the while putting the unity of the people and the country in the
forefront in conducting a civilized society in reaching a common,
national goal.
The Objectives of Wawasan
Nusantara
Wawasan Nusantara strives to nurture nationalism in every aspect
of life while prioritizing national interests above those of the
individual, group, ethnicity, or region. Nationalism is viewed as
imperative in fulfilling a collective national objective as laid out in
Pancasila and UUD 1945.

Nusantara
The implementation of Wawasan Nusantara in national development in
the areas relating to economics, socio-cultural matters, politics, and
national security are as follows:
• Economics
Creating a sound economy that guarantees the equal fulfillment and
improvement of prosperity for the people.
• Socio-cultural matters
Creating a state of acknowledgement, acceptance, and respect towards
every form of diversity among the Indonesian citizens.

Maintaining a healthy and dynamic climate of governance in realizing a
strong, aspirative, and trustworthy government.
• National security
Nurturing a love for the country as well as instilling a sense of
patriotism in every Indonesian citizen.
