Devising Log
An area of our performance we worked
on today was:
We tried to use a script to finalize the
performance and have it become more
organized, but we ended up having to
scrap the scripts. We finalized every
single scene with props for our
performance in the afternoon. We also
did a practice performance but ended
up having to remove a bunch of it due
to it being under rehearsed.
We worked on and improved by:
First thing in the morning, we came to drama and
immediately started working. One of our group members
gave us scripts to work off of. We had to use them more as
a guide rather than a full script due to the fact there was
too much on the scripts and our practice performance
ended up being under rehearsed and we had to remove a
bunch of stuff. Throughout the entire day, we mostly spent
rehearsing and just removing/changing something we
didn’t like. We depended a lot on feedback from our group
and would help our members deliver their lines properly.
We worked on lights for each scene and the music we’d
use. We perfected our chair duets and was ready to
perform by the end of the day.

This this is a change from our original idea because: During the rehearsal process, we
ended scrapping our scripts and just using them as a guide instead. This was a good change
as the scripts were a last minute thing and it would’ve ended up being way more messy
than if we just got rid of them.

This will help us show our original intentions by:

Our use of monologues helps us to add context
to a scene and also helps further move along the
story. I believe that the child having a
monologue about her presents adds to the
horridness of Mary killing her because we see a
glimpse into the way this child thinks,
personalizing her. I also think that the second
chair duet between Mary and her mother helps
show the toxic relationship between Mary and
her mother through the music, and also how it’s
placed after the therapist calls Mary’s mother.
This will help the audience understand our
performance and intentions better because:

happened between Mary and her mother
after that interaction.
