WEEKLY JOURNALS

This is where you think about your FMP learning journey and development.
Don’t simply describe what you did - consider what you have learnt and how this has benefitted
your project. What do you need to improve?

THIS IS JUST GUIDANCE THAT YOU NEED TO ADAPT TO YOUR OWN PROJECT. YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR
OWN PRODUCTION SCHEDULES AND YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS SHOULD REFELCT THAT.

Week Nine – Editing

EDITING

How did you find the editing process? This week I edited the final piece which I found to be
somewhat challenging as I had some problems to overcome.
Overall, the process was quite good and I am happy with
what I have done. I found that background music in my piece
didn’t really match very well but I was running out of time and
I couldn’t find anything that went well. The editing process
was very long and took a lot of time to complete however I
am happy with outcome of my production. As my footage
turned out well it made the editing process easier and more
simple to get right, as there were not scenes that I had to
change a lot due to the fact that I had already filtered out the
takes that I did not want in my production, this made the
process easier and simpler to get done.

What skills did you have to I have learned a few new skills from editing my production in
learn/develop during the editing the editing process. Although it may seem basic, I didn’t know
process? how to do any transitions or where to even find them in
premier pro but now I know where they are and how to put
them in my pieces in the future. Another thing that I learned
whilst editing my production is masking. Even though I tried to
do this for my music video in unit 6 I ended up giving up as it
didn’t work and I was really confused as to how to it, but now
I’m not brilliant at it, but I know what I’m doing more now. The
last thing I learned during this process is how to do a certain
tradition when it cross fades. That basically means the it has
one clip that starts to fade out as its coming to and end and
then as that one fading out a new one fades in but you can
see the images on top of each other for a few seconds.
This is the clip where I did the masking, I did it on the train
window as I forgot to film another clip of me “going
home” on the train so I though I would slow down the
clip so it just looks like I’m on my phone and then mask
the window so it still looks like in moveing at normal
speed on the train

As you can see this is the part where I have cross faded, you
can see this as there is two different clips merged on the
screen it is when the boys leave the sofa and then when they
are walking out of the house.
Upload screenshots of the editing
process and explain what they show.

This is the beginning of my production, the red layer at the top

is the title. The bit by the green is where the music fades in and
then the shot has some music. This is when Juras and James
are in the garden centre it then fades out and I arrive on the
train.

This is the middle part of my production and there is a purple fx

on one of the clips and that was a colour effect that made it
warmer as it was a very blue cold shot and I needed it to
match as I had to change camera and the two different clips
were very different colours
This part again is where I have had the music (the green one)
fade in and out and this is the bit where Juras argues with his
mum and then walks out. I recorded the fight in the studio so
that I could have them and just sound clips and I wouldn’t
have to ring more actors out.

This is the final ending scene when the girl gets stabbed and
as I need to do make the lighting darker and then I had to
make a phone call which again I recorded separate audio
clips and then right at the end I have a fade in music that
increases when she is lying dead on the floor

What issues did you have to On issue I had is that I could film in the dark which I needed to
overcome whilst editing? How did you so I had to film in the light with the sun beaming through the
move past them? trees. This was an issue as the scene was meant to be filmed in
the dark and I couldn’t so I ended have to fix it when I was
editing. I had to put an effect over it called a black and white
adjustment layer this made it look darker

this is what it looked like after I had edited it with the effect so
it did look a bit darker and as if it was dark outside.

Have you identified any scenes which I do not need to reshoot and scenes in the production, there is
need re-shooting? Will you be able to just one scene I need to film to fill some holes in my production
do this? but other than that I have pretty much done and there is
nothing I need to reshoot. I will have time to quickly get that
one last clip as I am getting my mother to drive me to Juras
house to film as I need to use his bedroom as a location so
that I can show the main guy at his house and him leaving it to
go and stab the girl

Are you on track this week? If not, I am a little bit behind as I need to film a bit more scene but
how far behind are you? other than that I’m on track

What work do you need to complete I will try and film more outside of lesson when everyone is free
outside of lessons to stay on track?

High Grade Tips

Evaluation & Reflection

● ‘reasoned decisions and inform the development of ideas’ – both your evaluation and the
weekly reflections above will clearly show both how and why your ideas developed throughout
the project
● ‘demonstrating clarity in thinking’ – all of the above plus very clear links between your research,
planning, idea development and the production of your poster and film trailer
