MARKING PERIOD 2

OVERVIEW OBJECTI VE
I put my focus on bettering my computer, camera, I was extremely busy this marking
audio skills, and fixing the mistakes I made in my last period so my main focus was to
marking period project. So, this marking period I made further my knowledge of the technical
Logos, animations, and planned out my next film. and creative sides of film while also
staying on topic of my concentration
with documentary style films and with
a theme I will talk about later in this
post.

PRODUCTION
I have yet to do anything actually
involving filming my next interviewee
but I made a lot of production Logos
and spent my time furthering my skills.
PLANNING
I was unable to film another interview with my next interviewee because we are both extremely
busy people. But I can tell you about him. His name is Jack, he goes to school at CV, and is a junior.
He suffered from very severe ADD and was only recently diagnosed. I plan on getting the interview in
soon because we both have some free time coming up so you will most likely get to see it in my 3rd
marking period blog post. Although I was unable to film the interview I was able to get most of the
planning out of the way. We will be filming in the film studio with white background and using the
multi-cam filming technique. In this case I will be using 3 cameras, one straight on, one to the right
zoomed in, and one to the left zoomed out. This will give multiple angles and depths of field to keep
my watchers intrigued. I want to keep the film modern and sleek with crisp shots. The sterile
background and fluorescent lights will add to the effect. I want my B-roll footage to be of Jack
playing guitar and writing music because that’s what he loves to do and I want to show how he can
do something he loves even with the disorder. I also realized a mistake I made in the first film that
made my whole editing process very strenuous, I was asking questions after questions and my
interviewer thought my voice was going to be in the final edit as well. This led to incomplete
responses because she was relying off of my voice for the substance of the questions. In my next
interview with Jack I will ask him one question, “tell me your story about living with ADD.” And that
way I will have a complete story without having to do as many cuts and edits as I had to do
previously. The only thing I’m worried about is the audio. That has been a consistent problem with
my films and I’ve researched and improvised and tested but all my audio is never where I want it to
be. I think this is the last piece I need to figure out before I can start filming.
Since I was unable to film this whole marking period, other than test footage when I was working
with audio and visual grain, I realized I will need a concrete logo for my series of interviews. So, I got
to work. First I used Photoshop, which was all new to me, and spent about 2 weeks getting use to
the software and set up of the program. But I got the hang of it and wrote blog posts on it and
eventually I came up with a pretty cool logo. It took a while to realize how layers worked and how to
work without an undo button. I didn’t even know how to change the colors in a layer and it was all
extremely frustrating. I had to download a different font online because all the standard ones were,
well, too standard. I was really looking for dramatic letters and found this font below which had a
very unique “A” Below is that Logo.

The only problem is that I realized you can’t animate in Photoshop so I had to start over because
what I wanted was an animated
production Logo. I’ve always really
really liked to use After Effects
starting when we had a unit about it
last year in Advanced Film so I
started there. I messed around for a
few days but nothing seemed to
click or were dramatic enough, until
I remembered about an unfinished
project I started last year.
Below are a couple of my sketched and ideas I wrote down on paper:

EVALUATION
Overall I really liked what I’ve done
this marking period. I feel like I was
able to make the best out of the
circumstances I was given, being
away and extremely busy. I wasn’t
able to come out with another film
but I am almost done with the
production and planning and I feel
extremely confident with how it will

next steps.
When I finally shoot my interview with Jack I will use my
previous knowledge from last year of multi-cam by
setting up 3 cameras at 3 different angles and then
lining them up is Premiere Pro using the multi-cam work
space and audio. The. I can click through to get my
different angles. This will make the editing process a lot
more fluid and easier.
The most important thing I learned was how to portray a
story. I made the mistake of asking questions and
interrupting the flow of the story in my previous film. But
now I know for next time to ask for their story and not to
interrupt so I don’t have to go through and fine tooth
pick in order to show the viewers a coherent story. This
was one of the main things I’ve learned, along with
audio, that will help better my next film.
