INTRODUCTION

•The Skeletal system is the body system which composes of bones,

cartilages, ligaments and other tissues that reform essential
functions for the human body.

•There are 206 bones in an adult skeleton and 300 bones in a baby
skeleton.

•Each arm and hand together have 30 bones and each leg and foot
together have 29 bones.
FUNCTION

• Gives the body its shape

• Allows movement
• Makes blood cells
• Provides protection for organs
• Stores minerals
BONES
Bone is living tissue that makes up the
body's skeleton. There are 3 types of
bone tissue, including the following:
Compact tissue. The harder, outer tissue
of bones.
Bones are classified by their shape
. Long
. Short
. Flat
. Irregular
CLASSIFICATIONS OF BONES
Flat Bones
Long Bones • Thin and Flattened
• Typically longer than wide • Usually curved
• Have shafts with heads at both • Thin layers of compact bone around
ends a layer of spongy bone
• Contains mostly compact bone • Examples: Skull, Ribs, Sternum
• Example :Femur, Humerus

Short Bones Irregular Bones

• Generally cube-shape • Irregular Shape
• Contain mostly spongy bone • Do not fit into other bone
• Examples: Carpals, tarsals classification categories
• Examples: Vertebrae and hip
JOINTS

( A joint is the part of the body where two or more bones meet to allow
movement. ).
There are 3 types of joints:
• Hinge Joint (Move forward and backwords like the hinge of a door eg. Elbow/knee
B
• Ball and Socket Joint (Moves 360 eg. Shoulder/hip bone)
• Skull Joint (Doesn’t allow movement at all)
TISSUES
( Tissue is a group of cells that have similar structure and that function
together as 4a unit.
There are basic) types of tissue:
• Connective Tissue
• Epithelial Tissue
• Muscle Tissue
• Nervous Tissue
LIGAMENT
A ligament is a fibrous connective tissu
attaches bone to bone, and usually ser
to hold structures together and keep them
CARTILAGE

The Cartilage is a strong,

flexible connective tissue that
protects your joints and bones.
It acts as a shock absorber
throughout your body. Cartilage
at the end of your bones reduces
friction and prevents them from
rubbing together when you use
your joints.
TENDONS

A tendon is a cord of
strong, flexible tissue,
similar to a rope. Tendons
connect your muscles to
your bones. Tendons let us
move our limbs. They also
help prevent muscle injury
by absorbing some of the
impact your muscles take
