Kinds of Headlines
Banner Head – banner headlines are attention grabbers. They set the tone, and are used springly. It is the full-
page width at the top of the news page to draw attention to the lead story of the paritcular page.

Crossline Head – It doesn’t always span the full-width of the page, but does cover all the columns of the
story to which it pertains.

Flush Left Head – is a two- or three-line head with each line set flush left.

Side heads/Flush right head – is a two- or three-line head with each line set flush right. The head to the right
of the story, rather than above.

Kicker (eyebrow)– also known as tag line. It is a line that introduces the headline or can be underlined for
emphasis.
