What is the Sound Devices
• Are special tools the poet can use to create
certain effects in the poem to convey and
reinforce meaning through sounds.
THE
TYPES OF
SOUND DEVICES
1. ALLITERATION
• The repetition of initial consonant sounds.
And the repetition of the beginning sounds
of neighboring words.

• Example: Peter Piper picked a peck of


pickled peppers.
2. REPETITION

• The repeated use of a sound, word, phrase,


sentence, rhythmical pattern or
grammatical pattern.

• Example:sans teeth, sans eyes, sans


everything!
3. CONSONANCE

• The repetition of internal/ medial


constants sounds.

• Example:The spotted kitten slept quickly


on matted fur.
4. ASSONANCE

• Is the repetition of vowel sounds in words


that are close together in a sentence.

• Example:His tender their might bear his


memory.
5. ONOMATOPOEIA

• Words that sound like what they mean.

• Example: Crunch, chirp,roar, etc.
