Introduction
Amnesia is the term used

In most forms of dementia,
memory loss occurs early
in the disease and is often
the first symptom noticed
Causes of amnesia
Memory loss can be caused by a wide range of conditions,
including:
• Head injury
• Emotional shock
• Alcohol-related brain damage
• General anaesthetics
• Stroke
• Brain surgery.

to remember what he or she can do.

new information.
 Break down new activities into small steps.
 Give verbal cues rather than ask questions.
 Keep a regular routine.
