Al zheimer stages
• Early stage: In the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, changes occur very gradually and may not
be immediately notic eable to others. When they do become noticeable, many people
misinterpret them as normal changes of aging. Often those in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease
are able to c over up their symptoms by using their soc ial skills.

• Middle stage: As the person’s symptoms worsen, it becomes apparent that something is very wrong.
The person’s perceptions and understanding of the world c hange signific antly at this time.

• ▶ Late stage: In the final stages of the disease, the person shows significant decline. The person
becomes physically dependent on others for all aspects of care. In addition, the person is at high
risk for complications related to pressure ulcers, contractures and infections.
