OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, Students must be able to:

1. differentiate the 21st century literary genres, and the one’s


from the original genres;
2. classify literary pieces of different 21st century literary
genres;
3. appreciate the unique features of each genre.
FOUR CONVENTIONAL
LITERARY GENRES
Poetry – is an imaginative awareness of
experience expressed through meaning, sound and
rhythmic language choices to evoke emotional
response.
DRAMA

• Is a composition in prose or verse presented


through dialogues. It pantomimes a story
involving conflict more contrast of character,
especially intended to be acted on a stage: a
play.
• Ex: Macbeth & Romeo & Juliet
FICTION

• Is a literature created from the imagination,


not presented as fact, though it maybe
based on true story or situation.
• Ex: Novel, Short story, Novella
NON - FICTION

• Based on facts and the author’s


opinion about a subject.
• Ex: Biography, Encyclopedia, and
Autobiography …
What is 21st Century Literature?

New literary works developed in the recent
decade are referred to as 21st Century
Literature.

These are authored by modern authors and
deal with current topics/issues while
reflecting a technology society.
Who are the 21st Century Reader?

The 21st Century Reader is someone
who grew up with technology as
their major learning tool and is
capable of navigating and
deciphering digital forms and media
messages.
