SELF-CONCEPT INVENTORY
Instruction: Take a look at your own self-concept and answer the following self-concept
inventory in your journal. Give yourself a rating using the scale:
0 = very weak; 1 = weak; 2 = somewhat weak/somewhat strong; 3 = strong; 4 = very strong
1. I have strong sex appeal.
2. I am proud of my physical figure.
3. I am physically attractive and beautiful/handsome.
4. I exude with charm and poise.
5. I can easily get along with.
6. I can adjust to different people and different situations.
7. I am approachable; other people are at ease and comfortable with me.

Senior High School will clarify the values
that define their person, discover their
interests and passions, realize their innate
skills and strengths, and embrace their
weakness as challenge to face and work on.
According to Papalia and Feldman 2012.
1. PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT – covers the growth of the
body and the brain, motor and sensory skills, and even
physical health.

2. COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT – covers our capacity to


learn, to speak, to understand, to reason, and to create.

3. PSYCHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT – includes our social


interactions with other people, our emotions, attitudes,
self-identity, personality, beliefs, and values.
1. HEREDITY – the inborn traits passed on by the
generation of offsprings from both sides of
the biological parent’s families.

2. ENVIRONMENT – the world outside of ourselves and the


experiences that result from our contact and
interaction with this external world.

3. MATURATION – the natural progression of the brain


and the body that affects the cognitive (thinking &
intelligence), psychological (emotion, attitude, self-
identity), and social (relationships) dimensions of a
person.

•A person of importance, prominence, renown, or
notoriety.

What makes human different from other living


organisms?
All organisms go through the same process of birth, growth,
development, regeneration, and death…

HUMAN differs in terms of more complex capabilities such as


SELF-AWARENESS, ANALYTICAL THINKING, SELF-
EVALUATION, MOTIVATION, DECISION-MAKING, &
REFLECTIVE THOUGHT.
According to Carl Rogers 1961)

“Human beings have sole capacity to reflect


upon itself, and in the process develop self-
awareness, become motivated, and then
desire to grow and change for the better; and
are prompted to mature and improve until it
reaches its desired level of development.
It is, therefore, natural for human beings to
develop toward maturity and fullness.”
A process in which persons reflect
upon themselves, understand who
they are, accept what they discover
about themselves, and learn or
unlearn new sets of values, attitudes,
behaviors, and thinking skills to
reach their fullest potential as
HUMAN BEINGS.

Adolescence starts with the biological changes
called PUBERTY.
