Multiple Intelligence
Classroom
Howard Gardner
● In 1983, Gardner published
his books Frames of Mind.

● Gardner’s Theory of
Multiple Intelligence (MI)
Different separate Human
capacities, namely:

Linguistic Spatial Intelligence

Intelligence

Logical- Musical Intelligence

Mathematical
Intelligence
Naturalist Interpesonal
Intelligence Intelligence

Bodily Kinesthetic Intrapersonal

Intelligence
Linguistic Intelligence
- Ability to analyze information and
create products involving oral and
written language
Example:

A person who loves to debate is an example

of someone with linguistic intelligence.
This person is likely to have a strong love
of language, would likely exhibit a larger
vocabulary, and understand meanings of
words and phrases
Logical-Mathematical Intelligence
- Ability to develop questions and proofs,
make calculations and solve abstract
problems
Example:

Among the games that develop logical-

mathematical intelligence are Monopoly,
Clue, and dominoes. These encourage
critical thinking, mental calculations, and
problem-solving.
Spatial Intelligence
- Ability to recognize and manipulate
large scale and fine-grained spatial
images
Example:

Games and puzzles can also challenge

spatial ability. Jigsaw puzzles are a great
introduction to spatial ability. Tangram is a
puzzle made of seven pieces that can be
freely arranged into many different shapes,
depending on how you fit together the
pieces.
Musical Intelligence
- Ability to produce, remember, and make
meaning of different patterns of sound
Example:

Examples of musical intelligence include

identifying instruments in a song or
recognizing notes. Another example is
easily memorizing words in foreign
languages
Naturalist Intelligence
- Ability to identify and distinguish
among different types of plants, animals,
and weather formations that are found in
the natural world
Example:

Naturalist intelligence can be stimulated in

the classroom through activities. Some
examples are the creation of habitats, caring
for animals and plants, collecting, and
classifying natural objects and organisms
such as rocks, insects, or snails.
Bodily Kinesthetic
- Ability to use one’s body to create
products or solve problems
Example:

Integration of movement and whole-body

learning: role-playing, acting, dancing,
playing, sports, and exercise. Tactile
learning: touching and feeling textures or
surfaces, handling objects. Self-expression
using the body: hand-gestures, physical
touch.
Interpesonal Intelligence
- Ability to recognize and understand
other people’s moods, desires,
motivations and intentions,
Example:

Many teachers, counselors, and politicians

are good examples of people with high
interpersonal intelligence. Famous leaders
such as Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi,
and Martin Luther King Jr. also display this
type of intelligence.
Intrapesonal Intelligence
- Ability to recognize and understand
other his/her moods, desires, motivations
and intentions,
Example:

People with strong intrapersonal

intelligence are often introspective, prefer
working alone, and are very self-aware.
Example : A student with strong
intrapersonal intelligence may not like
working in groups, or save certain kinds of
work for home.
In short: (DIFFERENCE)
Intrepersonal Intelligence
Interpersonal intelligence refers to the
ability to understand social situations
and the behavior of other people

Intrapersonal Intelligence
whereas intrapersonal intelligence refers
to the ability to understand one's own
behavior, thoughts, and feelings.

• MI Theory become a powerful force that pushed
many educators and schools to change the
educational system radically.
MI • MI has become the guiding framework to design
Theory the curriculum in preschool and in some private
elementary schools.
In 2011, Gardner summarized the educational
implications of the MI theory in Education. MI
theory should be Individualized and Pluralized
According to
Gardner:

Individualized Pluralized
Means that teachers should know Means that teachers should decide on
about the “intelligence profile” of which topics, concepts, or ideas are of
their students. greatest importance and should them
present in a various ways.
