CHAPTER 2: THE FIVE

KINGDOMS
2. Protist
-Protists are very similar to bacteria.
-Protists were also one of the first
organisms to develop in the world
-Protists are also unicellular.
-Some protists can cause diseases
too.
-Some protists are parasites too.
-But different from bacteria, protists
are eukaryotes.
-All protists live in watery
environments.
2. Protist
-Some protists are unicellular, but some are
multicellular.
-Some protists can move, but some protists stay only
in one place.
-There are three kinds of protists:
a.Protists that are similar to animals
• Amoeba is an example of this kind of protist.
b.Protists that are similar to plants.
• Algae and diatoms are examples of this kind of
protist.
c. Protists that are similar to fungi
Slime mold is an example.
-Fungi can be unicellular or multicellular
like protists.
-Fungi are also eukaryotes.
3. Fungi •- Fungi can grow anywhere that has
organic matter and a moderate
environment.
3. Fungi
-Fungi are similar to plants because they
also have cell walls and cannot move.
-But fungi don’t have chlorophyll so they
cannot do photosynthesis.
-And fungi don’t reproduce from seeds.
-All fungi are heterotrophs and get
nutrition from other organisms.
-Most fungi are decomposers and
recyclers.
-Many fungi are eatable, but some are
poisonous.
