CHARACTERISTICS THAT ALL ORGANISMS HAVE

Vocabulary
• 1. Physical= about the body or sense
• 2. Escape= go away from something
• 3. Respiration= about breathing
• 4. produce= make
• 5. energy= power
• 6. sensitive= can feel
• 7. environment= everything around
• 8. react= answer with action
• 9. develop= grow up, level up,
upgrade.
• 10. adult= older, bigger, organism.
1. MOVEMENT

• All organisms move.

• Some organisms can move from one place to
another.
• Some organisms do not move physically but only
move parts of their body.
• All animals and some bacteria move around to go
from one place to another, find food, or escape
danger.
• Plants have roots that grow down in the ground
and leaves that turn to the sun.
2. RESPIRATION

• All organisms respire.

• All organisms need oxygen or
carbon dioxide.
• All organisms use the oxygen or
carbon dioxide to change food
and produce energy.
3. SENSITIVITY

• All living things are sensitive.

• All organisms have senses.
• Every organism can notice changes in its
environment.
• Only humans have five senses.
• A change in the environment will make any
organism react.
• For example, if a bacteria feel something hot,
it will move to a place that is not hot.
4. GROWTH

• All organisms grow.

• The smallest organism develops
into an adult.
• Baby forms of organisms grow
into adults.
• Seeds develop into plants.
5. REPRODUCTION

• All organisms reproduce.

• Organisms produce offspring.
•-
• New plants grow from seeds.
• If an organism does not reproduce,
it will not survive and may become
extinct.
6. EXCRETION

• All organisms excrete.

• All organisms have waste in their
bodies.
• All organisms have to remove solid,
liquid, and gas waste.
• This waste must be removed from
the body.
7. NUTRITION
• All organisms need nutrition.
• Organisms need nutrients to
give them energy and the
materials the body needs.
• The nutrition an organism gets
will help it grow, live, and repair.
