TYBES OF
PRONOUN
Pronouns can be categorized into many types, all of which are very
commonly used in English:
• Personal pronouns.
• Subject and object pronouns.
• Possessive pronouns.
• Reflexive pronouns and intensive pronouns.
• Impersonal pronouns.
• Demonstrative pronouns.
• Interrogative pronouns.
• Relative pronouns.
SUBJECT PRONOUNS/PERSONAL:
A personal pronoun is used for the name of
a person or a thing. For example, I, we, you, they, he, she,
it,etc.

The subject pronouns are:

• First person (I, we, )


• Second Person (you,you)
(HE, SHE, IT,
THIRD PERSON
THEY)
EXAMPLES:
He is my friend. It is a black cat.
We are girl.
They are animals.
REFLEXIVE
PRONOUNS
When the action done by the subject reflects upon the subject, it is called
reflexive pronoun.
Note. Reflexive pronouns are made by adding –self to the end of the personal

pronoun. For example: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves etc.
Examples:
They enjoyed themselves.
I will do it myself.
You will hurt yourself.
She herself says so.
The village itself is not very small.
OBJECT
PRONOUNS
• We use an object pronoun after
verb ,preposition, and at the middle or end

of sentences.
For example: me, him, her, us, It, you, them.
Examples
Help me please. He plays with her. We saw
them.
They saw us.
Do you live near them.
After to or for with verbs like make, give, send,
lend ,pass ,take, show.
The little boy made it for her.
POSSESSIVE
ADJECTIVE
There is a different between possessive pronoun and
possessive adjective. We use possessive adjective before
noun but possessive pronoun at the end of sentences.
For example:
My book is new. His computer is old. Its cat is nice.
Our house is big. Your dog is small.
POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS
WE USE IT AT END OF SENTENCES. THE NEW BOOK IS
MINE.
The new cat is his.
The new address is hers.
The new house is ours.
The new computer is theirs.
Interrogative pronouns
Interrogative pronouns are used to ask questions. They can be used to ask for information or to
confirm something. The most common interrogative pronouns are:
who, what, where, when, why, and how.
Example:
Who has got a job in English department?
whom did she blame and why?
what happend? What are you crying?
Relative pronouns
A relative pronoun is a pronoun that introduces a relative clause. A relative cla
is a clause that provides additional information about a noun or pronoun in the
sentence.
Example who, whom, whose, which, and that.
for example:

who and whom are used to refer people


whose >>>>>> is used to show possession
which >>>>>> is used to refer things
Demonstrative pronouns
Demonstrative pronouns are words that point to and identify
noun or a pronoun. We use demonstrative pronouns to indica
distance in time or space.
this, that, these, and those.
Example
This is my cousin and his sister
these are my favorite bikes and cars
those are expensive laptops
