Instruction
1. Define the conceptual framework
2. Identify the independent and dependent
variables based on the given titles and
statement of the problems
3. Use the geometric figure to present the clear
relationships or interconnection between the
variables of the study
CONCEPTUAL
FRAMEWORK

A variable in research simply refers to a person,

place, thing, or phenomenon that you are trying to
measure in some way.

Independent variables are the factors
or variables that are manipulated or
controlled by the researcher. They
are the causes or predictors that are
believed to have an effect on the
dependent variable. Independent
variables are typically represented as
the "x" variable in a research study.
Dependent variables, on the other
hand, are the outcomes or effects that
are measured or observed in
response to changes in the
independent variables. They are the
variables that are influenced or
impacted by the independent
variables. Dependent variables are
typically represented as the "y"
variable in a research study.

relationship between studying time
and academic performance,
the independent variable would be
the amount of time spent studying,

be academic performance (e.g.,
grades, test scores).
ANALYSIS
Activity 3 - CABBAGE LEAVES ACTIVITY (You do)

As the music starts playing, the

cabbage (paper) form is given to the
students in the circular form.
When it stops the one who holds it
will take a leaf, read the question and
answer it.
QUESTION 1

Why is conceptual framework essential in research?

QUESTION 2

How does independent variable differ from

dependent variable?
QUESTION 3

What is the importance of the arrows in a

conceptual framework?
QUESTION 4

Why is conceptual framework of the study

THE CAUSE

•DEPENDENT VARIABLE -
THE EFFECT
Briefly elaborate on what you want to discuss.
The arrow indicates a causal relationship, each
arrow should start from the independent
variable (the cause) and point to the dependent
variable (the effect).
Single-head arrows are for one-directional
relationships (i.e. A affects B and B does not
affect A), and double-headed arrows are
for relationships that are 2-directional (i.e. A
affects B and B also affects A)
The straight line indicates the

between the independent and dependent

study is Peer Tutoring while the dependent

the Reading Fluency.
In Figure 1, Peer Tutoring as independent variable pertains
to the instructional method and a component of
cooperative learning that permits to provide in-depth
specific instruction to an individual student while at the
same time ensuring that remaining students in the
classroom remain actively engaged with the remaining
task. It also pertains to educational strategy that can meet
the academic and social skills of diverse learners
regardless of their ability level. Peer tutoring employs
peers as one-on-one teachers to provide individual
instruction, practice, repetition and clarification of
concepts.
Another variable is the reading fluency which
refers to the ability to read expressively and
meaningfully as well as accurately and with
appropriate speed. It is often identified as words
read correctly per minute and has three elements-
decoding, constructing the meaning and pursuing
or chunking for reading.
